Gonzaga Ready to Roll to Victory vs Kansas

Gonzaga vs Kansas Betting Odds November 26, 2020

It’s one of the biggest matchups of the opening week of the NCAA basketball season – and oddsmakers are expecting a closely contested affair Wednesday afternoon between the Gonzaga Bulldogs and the Kansas Jayhawks. Both the top-ranked Bulldogs and No. 6 Jayhawks will sport vastly different looks after losing a handful of impact players in the offseason.

Opening Odds Analysis

Gonzaga opened this heavyweight matchup as a 2.5-point favorite, but the line has shifted all the way to -4. The total, on the other hand, has risen 4 points in most spots from an opening of 146.5.

Gonzaga News & Notes

Gonzaga might have had the most to lose of any team when the 2020 NCAA Tournament was canceled, with the Bulldogs shaping up as one of the teams to beat. They face plenty of questions heading into the 2020-21 season – most notably, how to replace their starting frontcourt after losing Killian Tillie to graduation and Filip Petrusev to his native Serbia.

Fortunately, the Bulldogs have plenty of depth to counter these and other notable losses. That depth is highlighted by talented center Drew Timme, who was sensational last season as Petrusev’s backup. Timme will look to build on his averages of 9.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in just 20 minutes of playing time per game, and should be a lock in daily fantasy lineups.

Kansas News & Notes

Bill Self enters his 18th year at the helm of the Jayhawks with yet another championship-caliber team. That’s heady praise for a team that lost its two best players over the offseason: Udoka Azubuike (13.7 ppg, 10.5 rpg) was taken 27th overall by Utah in the NBA draft, while Devon Dotson (18.1 ppg) signed on as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bulls.

So who will carry the enormous scoring load in their absence? Look for the Jayhawks to get freshman guard Bryce Thompson involved from the outset. The five-star recruit from Oklahoma is expected to be the only first-year player to feature in the starting lineup, but he’s full value for the spot after excelling at Booker T. Washington High School last year.

Betting Pick: Gonzaga -4 (-110)

It seems as if the Bulldogs have less of a hill to climb to national contender status – heck, they’re pretty much already there – and should make a statement against a Kansas side that has more issues to iron out at the start of the season.
