Kansas Risky Sweet 16 Bet

As bettors hunt for an ATS upset with March Madness rolling along, historical trends for the Sweet 16 are pointing towards the Richmond Spiders to deliver one against the No. 1 seed Kansas Jayhawks.

In the last 20 games, the favorites in the Sweet 16 are a healthy 13-7 ATS. That doesn't mean you should ride all the favorites, of course. Seven of them still lost, or 35% if you prefer the percentages. Perhaps the best candidate to fail to cover among the favorites is the Jayhawks, and here’s why. [ Best Kansas line was -10.5, -109 at Sportsbook recently. ]

Sportsbook currently has the Jayhawks listed as a chalky 10.5-point favorite versus the Spiders. In the last 10 years the Jayhawks haven't been a smart bet in the Sweet 16, posting a wallet-draining 2-4-1 record ATS.

Making things even worse for Kansas is that they are 0-5 ATS in their last five games as a double-digit favorite this season.

The Spiders also have some of their own positive trends to add to the mix. In their most recent 16 games as the underdog, the Spiders are a sparkling 13-2-1 ATS. They're also a tidy 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games away from home, so making the trip to the Alamodome in San Antonio for the Sweet 16 would not appear to be a negative factor for the upstarts of Richmond. Where else should your money go?

Consider the UNDER in the Marquette vs. North Carolina game. The Golden Eagles have been consistent UNDER achievers lately, with a 14-2 UNDER mark in their past 16 games. They've also played seven straight UNDER results as the underdog (they're a 4.5-point 'dog against the Tar Heels), and UNC is 10-7 UNDER in their last 17 away from home.

Picking the Golden Eagles ATS might also work out as well, considering that Marquette is 16-4 ATS in their last 20 games as the underdog, and North Carolina – despite being 10-0 SU in their last 10 as the favorite – is only 3-6-1 ATS as chalk.

The Arizona Wildcats, meanwhile, are an 8.5-point underdog versus the Duke Blue Devils. In their last seven games as a ‘dog the Wildcats are 7-0 UNDER against the total. Coincidentally the Blue Devils are 8-3 UNDER the number in their last 11 overall.

How about the Sportsbooky boys from Butler? Can they deliver another upset in their Sweet 16 matchup with No. 4 Wisconsin? The trends suggest they can.

The Bulldogs have won 11 in a row, and in their last 11 games as the underdog they're 10-1 ATS. Wisconsin, on the other hand, is only 5-4 ATS in their last nine as a favorite.
