Kansas Jayhawks guard Devon Dotson (#11) brings the ball up the court during the Big 12 college basketball game between the TCU Horned Frogs and Kansas Jayhawks on February 11, 2019 at Ed & Rae Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

Can the Jayhawks Solve Their Road Woes at United Supermarkets Arena?

With only a handful of games remaining in the regular season, time is running out for No. 12 Kansas and No. 14 Texas Tech to catch league-leading Kansas State in the Big 12. The Red Raiders will be looking to deliver a blow to the Jayhawks’ chances of winning the regular-season title when the teams meet in the Lone Star State tonight. Sportsbooks opened the Jayhawks as 6-point road underdogs with a total of 135.

Kansas vs Texas Tech Game Center

Standout Stats

  • Texas Tech rebounded from a three-game slide by winning six of its last seven, with the only loss in that time coming in a 79-63 setback to Kansas on February 2.
  • The Red Raiders have won by an average of 24 points during their four-game winning streak, including last Saturday’s 86-61 rout of the Baylor Bears. Jarrett Culver (team-high marks of 17.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists) ranks third in the conference in scoring but scored only 10 points on 5-of-17 shooting vs the Jayhawks.
  • Kansas is a perfect 15-0 at home but only 2-6 on the road this season. The Jayhawks’ defense is in excellent form right now after forcing 24 turnovers in last Saturday’s 78-53 win over West Virginia. It’s the first time this season Kansas held a Big 12 opponent to under 60 points.
  • The Red Raiders are a fantastic 47-5 at home under third-year coach Chris Beard but 0-2 against Kansas over that time in United Supermarkets Arena.
  • The Jayhawks’ 79 points in the first meeting between the teams were the most allowed by Texas Tech this season. Junior K.J. Lawson will likely be leaned upon more going forward after coming off the bench to set season highs with 15 points, three 3-pointers and 24 minutes of playing time in Kansas’ triumph over West Virginia.

My best bet for Kansas-Texas Tech

While the Red Raiders have been excellent at home under Beard, the two losses to Kansas stick out. The Jayhawks haven’t been anything to write home about away from home this season but I’m expecting them to keep things close tonight. They may not win, but I think the +6 number is appealing due to their past success in Texas.
