Kentucky Wildcats featured in our Kentucky vs Ole Miss preview

Kentucky vs Ole Miss Odds & Picks: Wildcats Better In Ranked Matchups

Ole Miss has dropped four of its last five outright, also losing four of those games ATS. Kentucky has lost three of its last four, failing to cover in three of those contests. Something has to give Tuesday night in Oxford, when the 25th-ranked Rebels are a 3.5-point home favorite over the 14th-ranked Wildcats.

Indeed, these are rough times for these SEC stalwarts. Both teams won 15 of their first 17 games, with Ole Miss (16-6 outright) covering 11 times over that span, and Kentucky (15-6 outright) covering in eight. Since those heady starts, the Rebels and Wildcats have just a single ATS victory apiece. UK even suffered the ignominy of losing to former coach John Calipari, now at Arkansas, by 10 as an 8.5-point home favorite its last time out.

The grind of the nation’s best basketball conference is no joke. Kentucky will mark the fifth ranked opponent that Ole Miss has faced in its past six SEC games. The Wildcats meanwhile are bracing for their sixth game against a Top 25 foe in their last nine outings. Both teams have had flashes where they’ve looked for real—Ole Miss winning by 10 at Alabama, Kentucky outlasting Florida at home and Tennessee on the road—but not quite enough to make you a believer.

Ole Miss has a flat-out scorer in guard Sean Pedulla, a Virginia Tech transfer who put up 32 in a loss to No. 1 Auburn last time out, but the Rebels lack the depth of a Kentucky team that boasts six double-digit scorers. The Wildcats are the nation’s third highest-scoring team at 87.2 points per game, but defensively they lag well behind an Ole Miss squad giving up 67.7. The Rebels have covered just four of 12 home games, Kentucky just two of five on the road.

But just when you’re about to toss both these teams into a hat and pick one a random, this stat shows up: Kentucky is 6-2 ATS against ranked opponents. UK has been up and down, up and down, perhaps not surprising for a completely new team cobbled together by a new coach. Ole Miss meanwhile has been taking Ls night after night against Top 25 foes, which is the kind of thing that can take a mental toll. Give us the deeper and more confident ’Cats, even on the road.

Kentucky, no surprise with that offense, has gone OVER in two straight and four of its last six. The Wildcats can really push the pace against Top 25 opponents, going OVER in five of eight games against ranked foes so far. Ole Miss has gone OVER in three of five, and has a defense that’s pretty good—but should still be hard-pressed to keep the visiting Wildcats in check.

Kentucky vs Ole Miss News

The loss to Calipari and Arkansas this past Saturday night was concerning for Kentucky in more ways than one. It was also the second straight game missed by starting Wildcats point guard Lamont Butler, who according to the Louisville Courier-Journal was out with a shoulder injury. The San Diego State transfer is Kentucky’s third-leading scorer at 13.2 points per game, and his stats for Ole Miss remains uncertain, likely the reason the Rebels are favored.
