Kentucky Has Dominated In The Champions Classic

The Champions Classic has become the premier non-conference proving ground since its inception with Kentucky, Kansas, Duke and Michigan State all taking to the same court each year. However, it has been Kentucky that has dominated, as the Wildcats are 5-1 SU in the Champions Classic – the lone team with a record over .500. Will John Calipari and company continue this trend when they take on the Jayhawks on Tuesday?

Shark Bites
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Kentucky’s last 5 games against Kansas.
  • The total has gone UNDER in Kentucky’s last 7 games.
  • Kentucky is 10-4 SU in its last 14 games against the Big 12.

Kentucky and Kansas clashed once last season in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge with the Jayhawks ultimately picking up a come-from-behind 79-73 victory. Of course, both teams look much different this time around, as the top five scorers in that game are all gone.

Kentucky is 2-0 through its first two games but neither victory is overly impressive. The Wildcats won those two games by a combined 14 points despite their opposition – Utah Valley and Vermont – clearly being beneath them. Of the eight Kentucky players to see the floor this season, six are freshmen and it has shown at times.

Kansas cruised in its season opener against Tennessee State, as the Jayhawks tallied 92 points while shooting 60 percent from the floor. The guard-heavy lineup will jack up a lot of threes if that first game is any indication with Kansas taking 28 treys in that contest. Devonte’ Graham might be the best old man guard in the country and he proved he is ready to step up with 10 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds vs the Tigers.
