Duke Struggled to Cover Spreads Early Last Year

The favorites to win the 2017 NCAAB championship, the Duke Blue Devils will get their season underway tonight against the Marist Red Foxes – a game in which Duke is a massive, massive favorite.

SHARK BITES
  • Duke is missing two five-star frontcourt players.
  • Marist was 9-4 ATS on the road last year.
  • These teams have never matched up in Division I men’s basketball action.

Although it’s a new team with some new starters, things tend to stay pretty steady in Durham with Mike Krzyzewski at the helm. That said, the huge spread the Blue Devils will face Friday night may prove to be too many points. Despite winning four of its first five games last season, Duke didn’t cover a spread until its sixth and finished with an ATS record well below .500.

Duke is dealing with multiple injuries to the projected starting five and most notably will be without first-year center Marques Bolden. This will likely put a lot of the offensive pressure on Grayson Allen and he may not be able to do it all himself. Marist was actually pretty good against the spread last year and managed to cover in every game in which they were bigger than 10-point underdogs.

The computer is projecting this game stays UNDER and that Duke comes up over 10 points short of covering.

Sportsbook Odds & Computer Pick
