Maryland Seeks Continued Dominance vs Minnesota

Maryland Terrapins vs Minnesota Golden Gophers

Opening Odds Analysis

Early bettors have leaned toward the Terrapins in this one, moving the line down to Minnesota -1 at most books and down to a pick’em at some others. The total has moved up a point to 134 points. Minnesota is 2-5 SU in its last seven games against Big Ten opponents.

Maryland News & Notes

The Terrapins lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes 79-72 on Sunday as 3-point underdogs, snapping a 9-0 SU and 6-3 ATS winning streak. The loss also snapped Maryland’s four-game road winning streak; since opening the season with an 0-4 SU and 1-3 ATS record on the road, Maryland had gone 4-0 SU and ATS with outright upsets over Michigan State, Illinois and Indiana before Sunday’s loss.

Maryland’s dynamic scoring duo of Jalen Smith and Anthony Cowan Jr. couldn’t get anything going against the Buckeyes, combining for just 18 points and a 4-for-12 shooting performance from the floor. Cowan had been averaging 20.3 points per game over his previous seven games and Smith had been averaging 19 points per game over his previous eight before the off-night.

Minnesota News & Notes

Minnesota snapped a three-game losing streak on Sunday with an 83-57 win on the road over the Northwestern Wildcats. The Golden Gophers went 8-4 SU and ATS over a 12-game stretch through December and January that included a 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS record at home. But since January 26, the Golden Gophers are just 2-5 SU and 2-4-1 ATS over their last seven games with a 1-3 SU and ATS record in Minnesota.

Sophomore Daniel Oturu is enjoying a breakout season for Minnesota, averaging 19.7 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. Oturu and senior guard Marcus Carr (averaging 15.4 points and 6.7 assists per game) will be tasked with trying to solve a Terrapins defense that ranks 29th, allowing 63 points per game.

Betting Pick: Maryland +1

The Terrapins have been playing some fantastic basketball in recent weeks. One road loss at Ohio State doesn’t erase all of that; look for a bounce-back win in this one.
