Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The betting line has remained steady on this matchup since Michigan opened as a 13.5-point favorite. The total is set at 135.5 points, up slightly from its opener of 135 points. The UNDER is 4-1 in UNLV’s last five games.

Michigan News & Notes

Hunter Dickinson went 8-for-11 from the floor and recorded 18 points and 19 rebounds in Tuesday’s 67-65 loss to the Seton Hall Pirates. Dickinson was the only starter who shot over 50 percent from the floor as the team went just 26-for-62 on field-goal attempts and 3-for-15 on three-point tries. Michigan was an 8-point favorite over Seton Hall and was ranked No. 4 in the AP Top 25 poll at the time of the loss.

Dickinson was originally expected to enter the NBA draft this offseason but ultimately decided against it when he was projected to be a second-round pick. The seven-foot-two center is the reigning Big Ten freshman of the year, and his return to Michigan gives the Wolverines plenty of optimism for the upcoming season.

UNLV News & Notes

UNLV improved to 3-0 SU on the season but fell to 0-3 ATS with a 64-62 win as a 4-point favorite over the North Dakota State Bison on Monday. Bryce Hamilton led the team in scoring with 17 points in just 20 minutes of play while Donovan Williams chipped in 15 points and six rebounds off the bench.

Hamilton led the Rebels in scoring last season with 17.9 points per game and is off to a similar pace through the first three games this year, averaging 17 points per game.

The Rebels have won their first three games by an average margin of 3.7 points while being favored by an average of 6.7 points over that stretch. UNLV deserves credit for finding ways to win despite failing to cover the spread, but it will be interesting to see how that grit works out against a tougher opponent like Michigan.

How Michigan Will Cover

Michigan projects to be one of the best teams in the nation this season and should be highly motivated to perform well after its dud performance against Seton Hall. An inspired effort in Las Vegas could lead to a blowout win and cover in this one.

How UNLV Will Cover

After Hunter Dickinson’s supporting cast let him down against Seton Hall, the Rebels should aim to focus their defense on Dickinson and make the rest of the team beat them. UNLV has given up only 57.3 points per game this season, so keeping the game close with a strong defensive effort is a reasonable path to a cover.
