Dusty Bottoms, played by Chevy Chase, was one of my all time favorite characters in the movie 'Three Amigos,' and now Dusty May is quickly becoming one of my favorite coaches. If you're not familiar with May's progression, he is a Hoosier, born and raised. Never played hoops at IU but was the student manager of the basketball team. Dusty had a few assistant jobs before becoming the head honcho at Florida Atlantic. A program that was in the hoop desert for over 20 years until May arrived and lit a fire on the campus in Boca Raton.

The fire got REALLY hot in the 2022-23 season when the Owls posted a 35-4 record on the way to a spot in the Final Four. FAU was 25-9 in 2023-24 when Ann Arbor came calling with millions. The move has paid dividends already with Michigan sitting at 13-3 and tied for the top spot in the Big Ten.

Coaching in the college ranks is SO important, which is why we're giving you some intel on both guys in this matchup. Minnesota's Ben Johnson is into his fourth year in Minneapolis, and with the exception of the 2023-24 season, the results have been kinda ugly.

Minny was 13-17 in 2021-22, 9-22 in 2022-23, then 19-15 in 2023-24, but just 8-9 in the middle of this campaign. The Gophers have one kid that is worth talking about and it's PF Dawson Garcia. He is averaging 18.6 ppg and if Michigan can put the clamps on him, the rest of the squad is in trouble.

The Wolverines are not just winning, they're WINNING! Tell me Eck. Here are the numbers from their five game winning streak. They beat IPFW by 31 points, Western Kentucky by 48, USC by 11, UCLA by 19 and Washington by 16. Now that's WINNING! And C Vladislav Goldin, a beast at 7'1" and 250+ pounds, who played for May at Atlantic, has become a force in his senior season for the Maize & Blue. He is averaging 15.4 points per game and 6 rebounds. However, in the last two games, he dumped 55 points into the net, shooting OVER 76% from the field, and has cleaned the glass 14 times.

Minny has lost six of the last eight with the only two wins coming against cupcakes, Fairleigh Dickinson (6-12) from the Northeast Conference and Morgan State (8-12) from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Raise your hand if you can name two other teams from either conference. I'll wait...DIDN'T think so. Asking the Wolves to cover a 10 spot is a stretch, but would not buy the dog. However, since both teams like to fill it up (check out the betting trends), we will buy OVER 143.5 points.
