2016 Midwest Region March Madness Odds

Michigan State may not be a No.1 seed, but they are the favorites to win the Midwest Region and book a trip to Houston for the Final Four. Virginia is frequently an afterthought for many, as the Cavaliers’ defensive style has not made them the most of exciting teams to watch.

Michigan State opened as a +160 favorite to win the Midwest over No.1 Virginia, who opened at +210 per Sportsbook.

The Spartans won their final nine games ahead of the NCAAB Tournament with their defense holding opponents to just 62.7. You would be remiss to talk about the Spartans without talking about Denzel Valentine. The senior may be the most complete player in the nation as he has averaged 19.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game.

Virginia’s second-ranked defense nationally has not allowed an opponent to score 70-plus points since the end of January. The Cavaliers offense rests predominately on the senior duo of Malcolm Brogdon and Anthony Gill. That tandem combines for almost 50 percent of the Cavs offense.

Seton Hall could be the disrupter of the Midwest though, as they enter the tournament red-hot and clicking at the right time. Though, I don’t think anyone would complain if we get to see Michigan State vs Virginia in the Elite Eight.
