NCAAB Power Rankings: Feb 14

The Texas Longhorns are still No. 1 in the college hoops Power Rankings as their combination of solid offense and strong defense maintains their strong grip on the top spot.

Last week the Longhorns stretched their winning streak to 10 games by defeating Oklahoma  and Baylor. However, Texas did fail to cover the spread versus the Bears, only their second ATS loss in their last 10 games.

The week ahead looks pretty easy for the Longhorns as they play against Oklahoma State, who they already beat up on once this season, and Nebraska, who they have lost to only once in their last nine meetings.

For the second straight week following Texas in the rankings are their Big 12 brethren, the Kansas Jayhawks, at No. 2. The Jayhawks routed Missouri and Iowa State last week and their lone loss of the season remains their defeat versus Texas. Even more important for bettors, Kansas has covered in five straight and they've gone OVER the total in six in a row.

While the Longhorns and Jayhawks remain in the top slots the entire Top 5 hasn't remained unchanged. The Pittsburgh Panthers have moved up to No. 3, while last week's No. 3, the Kentucky Wildcats, have fallen to No. 5. That has given the BYU Cougars a slight bump, up one spot to No. 4.

The Duke Blue Devils continued their rise up the rankings this week, slotting in at No. 15, up from last week's placing of No. 18. Duke held off rival North Carolina and took care of Miami last week, but they failed to cover against the Tar Heels which dropped them to 3-3 ATS in their last six games. Duke's chances of getting into the Top 10 probably aren't very good right now thanks to the weak strength of schedule they get from playing in what is a lackluster ACC this season.

Three new teams pushed their way into the Top 25 this week, with Georgetown at No. 21, Illinois at No. 23, and George Mason at No. 24. The Hoyas look especially strong right now after reeling off eight straight wins - which includes upsets over Villanova and Syracuse.

And don't forget about George Mason when March Madness begins. The Patriots have won 11 in a row, during which they are 10-0 ATS.
