Last season was not a good one for the Oklahoma basketball program but maybe the most painful losses of the season were at the hands of Oklahoma State. Between a late-game three and a ridiculous tear by Jawun Evans, the Sooners were swept by the Cowboys last season. The outlook appears different entering conference play this season thanks to Trae Young.
Young is undoubtedly the front-runner for player of the year. The Oklahoma freshman leads the nation in both points and assists per game while taking twice as many shots as any other player on the team. Young’s deep three-pointers garner plenty of attention but his playmaking really makes the team tick and has been a big reason why Oklahoma is shooting over 50 percent collectively.
Oklahoma State is just 1-3 SU against ranked teams this season but has looked up to the challenge in each of those contests. The Cowboys pride themselves on a defense that is holding opponents to 67.2 points per game. Offensively, Oklahoma State is deep, with eight players averaging at least 7.2 ppg. Sophomore Lindy Waters III could play an interesting role, as the guard has played with Young since his elementary school days.
