Pac-12 Tournament Betting Preview

Arizona Wildcats NCAA

You can make the case that the Oregon Ducks have been the best team in the Pac-12 all season but there are a few teams hovering around the top of the standings that can do some damage come conference tournament time.

One such team is the Arizona Wildcats. The Wildcats are the tournament favorites at online shop BetOnline and come in at +175. They are presently third in the conference at 12-6 as of Monday, March 7, but are 24-7 overall. The Wildcats were rolling in February before dropping back-to-back games at Colorado and at Utah to finish the month.

The Ducks are the top team in the standings and are next on the futures board at +350. Oregon lost two-straight games earlier in February before reeling off five-consecutive victories to end the season.

There is not much in the way of value in “The Field” with bottom feeders UCLA, Arizona State and Washington State involved in that group.

The Pac-12 tournament gets underway on March 9 in Las Vegas.

Considered by many to be the conference’s top two teams, No. 1 UCLA and No. 4 Arizona will meet Friday in the Pac-12 semifinals after UCLA defeated ASU 80-75 and Arizona defeated Colorado 79-69 on Thursday.

Taking on the role of tournament Cinderella, No. 10 Utah upset No. 2 Cal 79-69 Thursday. Utah will face No. 3 Oregon on Friday after Oregon beat Washington 80-77 to advance. Oregon is 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS in its last four games against Utah.

No. 9 Arizona State defeated No. 8 Stanford 89-88 in overtime Wednesday to set the stage for a Pac-12 quarterfinals matchup with No. 1 UCLA Thursday. UCLA is 5-1 SU and 2-3-1 ATS in its last six games against ASU.

No. 5 Colorado beat No. 12 Oregon State 74-68 and will face No. 4 Arizona Thursday. Colorado is 2-1 SU and 3-0 ATS in its last three against Arizona.

With the best overall record in the Pac-12 at 24-6 SU, No. 4 Arizona is the betting favorite to win the Pac-12 Conference Tournament at 2/1.

Arizona is hardly a clear favorite in this wide-open conference, entering the tournament with a pedestrian 4-4 SU record in its last eight games and an 0-4 SU and ATS record against the Pac-12’s top three seeds.

No. 1 UCLA (4/1 at Bovada) is arguably the conference’s best team, and finished the regular season with the top record in conference play of 13-5 SU. No. 2 Cal (9/2) and No. 3 Oregon (9/2) both finished with 12-6 conference records, and all four receive byes into the quarterfinals on Thursday.

The first round of the Pac-12 Tournament begins Wednesday with a matchup between No. 9 Arizona State (25/1) and No. 8 Stanford (10/1). Stanford is a perfect 6-0 SU and ATS in its last six games against ASU. The winner of this game will face No. 1 UCLA in the quarterfinals.

The defending Pac-12 Tournament Champion No. 5 Colorado (9/1) meets No. 12 Oregon State (100/1) Wednesday. These two teams just met in their regular season finale on Saturday and Oregon State pulled off the upset as a 10-point road underdog. The winner of this game will face No. 4 Arizona in the quarterfinals.

No. 10 Utah (100/1) squares off against No. 7 USC (50/1) in the third game of the first round. USC is 2-0 SU and ATS against Utah with two 17-point victories over Utah in their last two meetings. The winner of this game takes on No. 3 Oregon in the quarterfinals.

Lastly, No. 11 Washington State takes on rival No. 6 Washington in the final game of the first round. Washington is 5-0 SU and 3-2 ATS over its last five games against its in-state rival. No. 2 Cal awaits the winner of this game in the quarterfinals.

It has been a rough year for the Pac-12 with no team really setting itself apart from the pack, setting up a fairly wide-open conference tournament this year. Every team should be playing hungry with the automatic bid on the line.

The California Golden Bears opened as a slight favorite of +225 at BetOnline. The defending Pac-12 champion Washington Huskies are second at +350, but teams like UCLA (+400), Arizona (+420), and Oregon (+450) are all close behind.

No. 8 Washington State and No. 9 Oregon State kick off the tournament’s action on Wednesday afternoon. On paper, it looks like a pretty favorable matchup for the Cougars, who are 8-2 straight up in their last 10 games against Oregon State and 4-0 ATS in their last four against the Beavers.

No. 5 UCLA is the best team playing on Wednesday, and they go up against the No. 12 USC Trojans. USC was awful this season with a 6-25 straight up (and 9-21 ATS) record and a 1-17 record in conference play, but they are 4-6 SU in their last 10 against UCLA.

No. 7 Stanford also appears to have a favorable matchup taking on the Arizona State Sun Devils. Stanford is 4-0 SU and ATS in its last four games against ASU.

Rounding out Wednesday’s action is the matchup between the No. 6 Colorado Buffaloes and No. 11 Utah Utes. Like USC, Utah had a very rough year with a 6-24 overall record and a 3-15 conference record. Colorado beat Utah 73-33 earlier this season.
