We're full throttle into our last week of February, which means March Madness is getting closer! But, before we get ahead of ourselves, there's a handful of ranked matchups for Tuesday's college basketball schedule. Below I've outlined three player props for February 25 featuring bets for three ranked matchups. I'm calling Kon Knueppel to embarrass Miami's perimeter protection and Josh Hubbard to continue being unfazed by the reputation of his opponents. All odds courtesy of Sportsbook.
Preview: Mississippi State Bulldogs vs Alabama Crimson Tide, 9:00 p.m. ET
The lone ranked matchup of the night features No. 6 Alabama, the third-best squad in the SEC and No. 24 Mississippi State, which is clasping onto a AP Poll position with a 3-3 SU record so far in February.
The Tide are standing proudly with an 11-2 SU mark when hosting at Coleman Coliseum while the Bulldogs have dropped three of their last six getaway meetings. But, none of that matters for Josh Hubbard.
Hubbard has hit the OVER on 5.5 rebounds and assists in five straight meetings, accomplishing it against No. 3 Florida, No. 19 Ole Miss and No. 7 Texas A&M. The sophomore has found us some betting edge regardless of who he's tipping off against.
Preview: Tennessee Volunteers vs LSU Tigers, 9:00 p.m. ET
Daimion Collins has been respectfully steady in his rebounding game, recording four or more in 18 appearances. His 4.5 average on the year isn't reflective of what he's capable of, having struggling plateau at at the end of January caused his stats to fall off the wagon.
But, the junior has gotten back on his stride by cashing the OVER on 3.5 rebounds in six straight matchups, averaging a secure 5.3 rebounds per game.
Notably, this will be the strongest defense on the glass that Collins has faced in that span, though. The closest to compare to Tennessee's 26th-ranked 31.3 rebounds allowed per game is South Carolina's 32.3 total rebounds, which sits just inside the top 50. So, do I fade Collins or do I prey on the downfall of Tennessee's protection on the glass?
Well, Collins has home court advantage and if he can snag seven rebounds against the Gamecocks, the best comparison we have to the Vols, then this line is doable tonight. Plus, might as well keep up with the trend of banking on players who don't give a damn how good their opponent is.
Preview: Duke Blue Devils vs Miami Hurricanes, 7:00 p.m. ET
There's one thing for certain—Miami is one of the worst perimeter defenses in college basketball. No seriously, the Hurricanes 38.7% is the third worst mark in the nation. Last time out, Jai Lucas' boys let Virginia Tech sink 41.4% from beyond the arc. The Hokies aren't even classified as a threat from the distance, earning a middling 23 points from three-pointers on average this season.
Meanwhile, Duke is known for three-pointers. The Blue Devils average a 38.3 3PT% that's inflated to 46.7% across their last three meetings. Knueppel is known to take his chances from the perimeter and guess who is best three-pointer performance was against so far this season? Yup, Miami back in January when the freshman went 6-for-8 (75%).
Oh, that's not all we got for you today. Mitch Bannon has thrown out his back digging up player and team trends for tonight's slate. He's even thrown in a pick for you to tail, too!
Marquette's Stevie Mitchell OVER 1.5 Steals (-215 at Sportsbook)
Stevie Mitchell is a home warrior, going over 1.5 steals in each of his last eight home contests. Now, Mitchell and Marquette host a Providence team that turns the ball over all the time. They give up 12.6 turnovers per game (257th in the nation) and opposing teams have had at least six steals in each of the Friars’ last six games.
When Marquette played Providence earlier this year, the Golden Eagles had an absurd 15 steals and Mitchell led the way with five.
