Jamal Murray Kentucky Wildcats NCAA

SEC Tournament Betting Odds Preview

The Southeastern Conference had a down year in the football, but it is really having a tough go when it comes to college basketball.

That said, the Kentucky Wildcats are talented enough to win the NCAA Championship and with the way that Jamal Murray is playing, it wouldn’t be much of a shock. But they’ll have to trudge through the SEC tournament before that.

To the surprise of nobody, the Wildcats are the Sportsbooks' favorites to win the conference and tourney and are presently +110 at online shop Sportsbook. They finished tied for the regular season crown, but went just 3-2 SU in their final five games.

Despite being the co-Sportsbooks of the SEC regular season title with Kentucky, Texas A&M is third on the board with a current price of +375. Texas A&M defeated the Wildcats 79-77 in overtime in their last meeting on February 20. The Aggies have undergone a bit of a resurgence with a six-game winning streak after losing four straight and five of six in conference play earlier in 2016.

"The Field" comes in at +2000, but when you're offering the likes of Missouri, Alabama, Mississippi State, etc., there is not much value at all.

Considering that the Kentucky Wildcats are the favorite to win the NCAA Tournament this season, the defending SEC Champions, and 30-1 overall with a 16-0 conference record, it would take a pretty big upset for any other team to win the SEC Tournament.

Kentucky opened at Sportsbook as substantial -400 chalk to breeze through the conference as it has all season. If anyone is going to catch the Wildcats sleeping, it would likely have to be Florida (+200) or Vanderbilt (+300).

The tournament tips off Thursday afternoon with the No. 8 LSU Tigers and the No. 9 Arkansas Razorbacks. Arkansas holds a 9-3-1 ATS edge over the Tigers in their last 12 games, but LSU has turned the tides a bit recently with a 3-2 SU and ATS record over their last five meetings.

With a 2-14 conference record, the No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks are being given virtually no chance to win the tournament at +25000, and will likely suffer an early exit at the hands of No. 5 Alabama. South Carolina did get one of its two conference wins in an upset over Alabama at home this season though, so they should at least have a little confidence. The total has gone UNDER in seven of the last eight games between these two teams.

No. 7 Mississippi takes on No. 10 Auburn in what looks to be a fairly even matchup on paper. Fireworks tend to fly on offense when these two teams meet as the total has gone OVER in five of their last six meetings.

Wrapping up the first round is the No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs looking for the upset over the No. 6 Mississippi State Bulldogs. Georgia has won each of the last two meetings between these two teams (including an upset this year), and is 3-0 ATS in its last three against Mississippi State.
