  • The Villanova Wildcats have straight-up owned the Seton Hall Pirates over the years, as the Wildcats will be looking to win their 17th straight against the Pirates in Philadelphia - a span that crosses 25 years. Sportsbooks opened the Wildcats as 8.5-point home faves with a total of 146.

    Pirates haven’t enjoyed conference play

    The Wildcats are the only undefeated team in Big east play and enters today’s matchup having won seven in a row. Villanova topped Butler 80-72 on Tuesday thanks to a combined 40-point effort from Eric Paschall and Phil Booth. Three of their teammates chipped in double-digit points as well. Forward Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree has 21 points in the last two games after going scoreless in the previous two affairs.

    Seton Hall has dropped three in a row and four of its last five, managing only a one-point win over Butler in that stretch. Six of the Pirates’ setbacks have come by fewer than 10 points. The Pirates’ 97-93 defeat against DePaul in their last game was especially disappointing since the Pirates shot over 54 percent from the field and from the 3-point line.

    Wildcats love going UNDER at home

    When it comes to the total, bettors may want to pay close attention to the UNDER in this one. In the Wildcats’ previous 11 home games, the UNDER is a sizzling 9-1-1. In their past 19 overall, the UNDER is 12-5-2. Seven of the previous eight meetings between Villanova and Seton Hall in Philadelphia have gone UNDER.

    The Pirates have hit a wall when it comes to covering the spread. In Seton Hall’s past five games, it’s 1-4 ATS. The Pirates are 0-4 ATS in their past four when coming off a straight-up loss.

    My pick: take the Wildcats on the spread

    Villanova’s past home dominance over Seton Hall is truly amazing, and I’m not expecting the Pirates to end the drought in this one. Seton Hall seems to be going through the motions right now and haven’t shown any signs of breaking out of their funk, and while they’ve been able to keep games close, I think Villanova wins this one by a double-digit margin.
