Texas Tech Eyes First-Ever Final Four Berth vs Gonzaga

The West Region bracket is coming to a close as the top-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs tip off against the third-seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders in an Elite Eight matchup. Gonzaga has cruised to the fourth round for the first time since 2017, while Texas Tech is aiming to avoid back-to-back Elite Eight losses after falling 71-59 to Villanova last year. The higher-seeded Bulldogs are a 4.5-point favorite with the total opening at 139 points.

Texas Tech vs Gonzaga Game Center

Standout Stats

  • Gonzaga has had just one loss since December 18, sporting a record of 24-1 SU and 16-9 ATS in its last 25 games with its only defeat over that span coming against Saint Mary’s in the WCC tournament final. Meanwhile, Texas Tech is 12-1 SU and 11-2 ATS in its last 13 contests with its lone loss coming against West Virginia in a Big 12 tournament quarterfinal.
  • The UNDER has been a reliable play for both squads down the stretch with the total going UNDER in four of Gonzaga’s last six games and in four of Texas Tech’s last six. Of the Bulldogs’ last six contests, only two went OVER 139 points, while the same story can be written about the Red Raiders.
  • The Bulldogs have a massive advantage on offense as they lead the nation in scoring with 88.2 points per game, while the Red Raiders average 72.9 ppg. That being said, Texas Tech holds the edge on the defensive side of the ball, limiting opponents to 58.7 ppg, but Gonzaga isn’t far behind with its foes chipping in 64.6 ppg. Texas Tech has had to put up its numbers against the 50th-toughest strength of schedule, while Gonzaga’s SOS ranked 77th.
  • Texas Tech and Gonzaga both elect to get their offense from inside the arc, but the Red Raiders will take a few more attempts from behind the three-point line. When these teams get the ball in two-point range, the Bulldogs knock down 61.6 percent of their attempts, while the Red Raiders shoot 53.1 percent from that area of the floor. Defensively, Texas Tech ranks third in the nation in opponent two-point percentage, while Gonzaga is slightly behind in sixth.
  • The Bulldogs should have the edge on the glass, securing 39.1 rebounds per game, while the Red Raiders average 34.3 boards per game. Additionally, Gonzaga averages 10.5 giveaways per game and Texas Tech commits 12.3 giveaways per game. However, the Red Raiders create more takeaways than the Bulldogs.

My Best Bet for Texas Tech vs Gonzaga

Gonzaga -4.5

The Bulldogs are the far superior team on the offensive side of the ball while being very similar defensively to the Red Raiders. Texas Tech grabbed the Buffalo Bulls by the horns and held that offensive squad to just 58 points, but I think Gonzaga is several notches above Buffalo offensively and much better defensively and should be able to advance to the Final Four.
