Wright State Faces Volunteers in First March Madness Appearance Since 2007

The Wright State Raiders make their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 11 years when they battle the Tennessee Volunteers on Thursday afternoon at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The Raiders are coming off a 74-57 win over Cleveland State as 9.5-point favorites in last week’s Horizon League tournament final, while the Volunteers seek to atone for a 77-72 loss to Kentucky as 2-point favorites in Sunday’s SEC final.

No. 14 Wright State posted a school-record 25 victories this season, including a 14-4 record in conference play, and takes a four-game straight up and against the spread win streak into March Madness. However, the Raiders are winless in two previous NCAA Tournament appearances, falling to top-ranked Indiana in 1993 and No. 3 Pittsburgh in 2007, both by wide double-digit margins.

The Volunteers saw a six-game SU tear end with Sunday’s stunning loss to the Wildcats, and have won 27 straight as double-digit favorites, but are just 7-14 ATS over their past 21 when favored by 10 or more.

Tennessee is also 8-1 SU in its last nine games after a loss, and has enjoyed regular success in the Sportsbook round at March Madness, going 7-3 SU in its past 10 contests. Conversely, the Raiders have historically struggled against opponents from the SEC, going winless SU in six all-time matchups.
