Arizona State is looking to rebound from first loss of the season

Arizona State jumped into the Top 25 rankings following Week 2 when it got off to a 2-0 start, including a 16-13 win over then-No. 15 Michigan State. However, the Sun Devils are now on the outside looking in after falling to unranked San Diego State 28-21 in Week 3. ASU quarterback Manny Wilkins had a good game, throwing for 341 yards and two touchdowns. However, the Sun Devils picked up just 36 rushing yards on 24 carries with one touchdown, though they trailed the entire second half so the run game was mitigated. The big issue was that San Diego State rushed for 311 yards and owned the line of scrimmage.

The Sun Devils’ two victories this season both came at home and their Week 3 loss was their first road game of the season. Arizona State had allowed a combined 20 points in the first two weeks before surrendering 28 points against San Diego State. Wilkins has been great on the season, throwing for 958 yards, seven touchdowns and just one interception. His 958 passing yards is good for 10th-most in the nation. Although the squad has allowed an average of just 16 points per game, they rank 53rd in the nation for yards surrendered per game at 346.

Washington rolling after Week 1 loss

Washington kicked off the season in a tough way, taking on then-No. 9 Auburn in a neutral-site game that the Tigers won 21-16. The Huskies have got back on track since then, though, winning their last two games, outscoring their opponents 66-10, including an impressive 21-7 road victory over a defensive-minded Utah squad in Week 3. Washington quarterback Jake Browning has been scuffling early in the season, throwing for 764 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions, completing just 59.1 percent of his pass attempts.

Washington did put the pedal down in its home opener, its only home game thus far, against FCS side North Dakota 45-3 in Week 2. The Huskies defense has been smothering through the Sportsbook three weeks of the season, allowing just 10.3 points per game, which ranks 11th in the nation, and they’ve given up just 170.7 passing yards per game, tied for 28th in NCAA. However, Washington’s offense hasn’t been blowing anyone away as it averages 27.3 points per game, which ranks 88th in the nation, albeit after a tough start to the schedule.

Should you be on the UNDER?

Both teams have been flexing their defensive muscles through the first three weeks of the schedule and Sportsbook has this week's total Sportsbook at 50 points. In addition to both teams allowing fewer than 20 points per game, they rank toward the bottom in points for, with Arizona State sitting 81st and Washington 88th. Only seven of the last 18 meetings between these two schools have gone OVER 50 points and only twice in their last seven. Lastly, Arizona State has visited Washington eight times since 1995 and the total has gone UNDER 50 points in six of those games.

My take on Washington vs Arizona State

Lots of signs are pointing to the UNDER and because of that I like Arizona State +17.5. A bit of a curveball there, but I think this will be a low-scoring defensive battle. Both teams are struggling to score offensively but are performing well defensively. Additionally, the Sun Devils are 11-1 SU in their last 12 meetings with the Huskies, with the only loss coming in Washington in 2016. Meanwhile, Arizona State is a perfect 8-0 ATS in road games vs Washington since 1995, and is 12-0 ATS in the last 12 meetings regardless of location.
