Army Has Not Recorded Back-to-Back Wins vs Navy Since 1996

Army finally put 14 years of futility behind them when they defeated Navy last season but now the Black Knights are looking for more. Army has not won consecutive games in this rivalry since rattling off five consecutive victories between 1992 and 1996 – since then, Navy has won 17 of the 20 matchups.

Shark Bites
  • The total has gone UNDER in Army’s last 11 games against Navy.
  • Army is 3-0 ATS in its last 3 games against Navy.
  • Navy was held to just 201 yards of offense with 3 turnovers vs Army last season.

It was not an easy victory last season, as Army looked as though they were going to choke away the victory in their biggest game of the season. The Black Knights opened a 14-0 lead at halftime only to allow the Midshipmen to rattle off 17 unanswered points. The rushing attack quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw ultimately scored the game-winning touchdown with 6:00 left.

Bradshaw is back again this season running the flexbone offense, as the senior leads the team with 1,472 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. The owners of the No. 1 rushing attack in the nation, Army wins games by pounding the rock and controlling the time of possession. And though the defense has not always been stretched too thin thanks to this approach, the Black Knights are still capitalizing and allowing just 21.6 ppg.

After two years of dominating the AAC, Navy had themselves a down year with a 4-4 conference record. The Midshipmen opened the season strong but have dropped five of their past six as their offense largely stalled out – scoring just 26 ppg compared to 37.2 through their first five. Of course, the offensive system is very similar to their rivals, as their option-heavy scheme relies on quarterback Zach Abey to make smart decisions with the football.
