Army Playing in First Bowl Game Since 2010

The Heart of Dallas Bowl is perennially one of the most explosive bowl games of the season, and Army and North Texas will look to live up to those expectations on December 27. The winning team in this game has never scored fewer than 30 points and has scored at least 44 points in half of the contests in the six-year existence of the bowl.

North Texas isn’t exactly a program that strikes fear into many peoples’ hearts, but they haven’t been getting the job done when facing good teams. The Mean Green are 1-11 SU in their last 12 against squads with winning records.

Army is playing in its first bowl game in six years and just the third since 1988. Head coach Jeff Monken took over the program in 2014; before then, the Knights had won eight games in three years. They posted losing records in 16 of 17 seasons leading up to 2014.

The Mean Green are playing in the contest due to the program’s Academic Progress Rate score, the highest of the country’s five-win teams. North Texas hasn’t been in a bowl game since 2013 when it toppled UNLV 36-14 in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.
