No. 8 Auburn, No. 4 Georgia Set for a Slog

Things are already heating up in the SEC schedule as the Auburn Tigers visit the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday in a statement game for both national championship contenders. The Tigers (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS) rolled to an impressive 29-13 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats in last week’s season opener, while the Bulldogs (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) blasted Arkansas 37-10.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Georgia opened as a 4.5-point favorite when the odds for this showdown were originally released, but that line now sits at -7 in most spots (with an occasional -6.5 available). The total is holding firm at 43.

Auburn News & Notes

The final score might suggest that the Tigers had things under control last Saturday against Kentucky, but that wasn’t the case over the first three quarters. Auburn struggled offensively and led by just two points entering the fourth quarter before quarterback Bo Nix connected with Seth Williams and Eli Stove for touchdown plays just over two minutes apart early in the period.

Nix was solid if unspectacular with 233 passing yards and three touchdowns, but he will have a much more difficult time this weekend against a Georgia defense widely considered to be one of the best in the nation. Nix is a hard fade in daily fantasy formats, as is an Auburn running game that averaged just 3.0 yards per carry on 30 attempts last week and might not get there this weekend.

Georgia News & Notes

For a team that put up 37 points in its season-Sportsbook rout of the Razorbacks, the Georgia offense looked surprisingly bland. Stetson Bennett put up 211 passing yards and two third-quarter touchdowns to help the Bulldogs wipe out a 7-5 halftime deficit, while eight different Georgia rushers combined to average a pitiful 2.9 yards per attempt on 42 carries in the win.

One place to look for potential daily fantasy or player prop value: running back Zamir White, who rumbled for 71 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries against Arkansas. He should be able to make inroads against an Auburn defense that allowed 145 yards on the ground to the Wildcats, though that yardage came on a whopping 40 Kentucky carries.

Betting Pick: UNDER 43 (-110)

Auburn has struggled to score many points against Georgia, while the Bulldogs offense looks like a work-in-progress. This game has all the makings of a defensive slog.
