[Beef 'O' Brady’s Bowl matchup stats]

Louisville is making its first bowl appearance since 2006, when the program took home the Orange Bowl. Under highly-regarded first-year head coach Charlie Strong the Cardinals have risen steadily, going to 12th from 65th in yards allowed per game.

NCAAF odds might favor Louisville in this bowl game because of their head-to-head win over Southern Miss last season.

The Cardinals have a solid history in college football and the NCAAF odds reflect this in the lines for the bowl game. Senior Justin Burke will get the start at quarterback, but Strong hasn’t ruled out using Adam Froman and Will Stein.

Burke had 572 yards and seven TDs after taking over for Froman, who injured his leg. If Louisville is to make winners of college football bettors, it won’t come from an offensive barrage. The defense has stood tall to get them into a bowl game and it could be that intangible that gets them a championship - when the prospects weren’t good at the start of the season.

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles are polar opposites of their opponents, racking up nearly 40 points and over 450 yards per game. However, the Golden Eagles surrendered 40 points five times this season.

Junior quarterback Austin Davis of the Golden Eagles threw for 2,898 yards with 18 touchdowns while running for 436 yards with 10 TDs. It’s no wonder this team paid out to OVER bettors eight times during the year.

Southern Miss is a team that made winners of pointspread bettors six times this season, and should be a good wager for a cover on the Beef 'O' Brady’s Bowl odds.

The experience of being in nine straight bowl games could give the edge to them as well, and might make them a good underdog bet.

Despite its weaker record during the regular season, sportsbooks still believe a much-improved defense is cause for Louisville to be a 3-point favorite in college football betting odds for the Beef 'O' Brady’s Bowl against the offensively-minded Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
