Biggest College Football Bets - Week 3

The 2012 college football season enters Week 3 and it is time to go big or go home when it comes to wagering on the games. The following is a look at the biggest line moves, biggest underdogs, and biggest battles on tap for this week’s college football schedule. All lines are provided by 5Dimes.

Biggest College Football Line Moves - Week 3

No. 16 TCU opened as a 26.5-point road favorite against Kansas in its first-ever Big 12 conference game, but the betting public has driven this spread down to 21 points at 5Dimes. This line move is a bit perplexing considering how bad the Jayhawks looked in a 25-24 loss to Rice last Saturday as 12-point home favorites. It could be due to the fact that the Horned Frogs are 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games following an ATS win.

The line for Saturday’s No. 1 Alabama at Arkansas game was not released until mid-week in light of an injury to Razorbacks quarterback Tyler Wilson. It finally opened with the Tide favored by 15.5 points but quickly jumped to -20.5 once Wilson’s playing status was downgraded to doubtful.

No. 5 Florida State opened as a 24.5-point favorite at home in an ACC clash against Wake Forest, but the betting public went heavy on the Seminoles to drive this line up to 28 points. They must obviously be impressed with Florida State’s 124-3 margin of victory in two previous games against Division-IAA opponents.

Biggest College Football Underdogs - Week 3

No. 17 Michigan needed a light week after a bit of a rough start and should coast as a 47-point home favorite at 5Dimes against the MAC’s Massachusetts Minutemen.

No. 3 LSU crushed Washington 41-3 last week as a 22.5-point favorite so it is little wonder that the Tigers have been opened as 42.5-point home favorites against 0-2 Idaho.

No. 7 Georgia made Missouri’s first game in the SEC a forgettable one with a 41-20 beatdown as a 1-point road favorite. This week the Bulldogs return home as 42-point favorites over the Florida Atlantic Owls from the Sun Belt Conference.

Another huge mismatch involving a team from the SEC has No. 8 South Carolina as a 33.5-point home favorite against the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers from Conference USA.

Biggest College Football Battles - Week 3

The highlight of this weekend has No. 20 Notre Dame on the road against No. 10 Michigan State in one of college football’s biggest rivalries. The Spartans have been opened as 5.5-point favorites at 5Dimes. Next on the list is an SEC showdown between No. 18 Florida and No. 23 Tennessee with the surprising Volunteers a 3-point favorite at home. Heading out west to the Pac-12, the No. 2 USC Trojans will try and snap a three-game losing streak to the No. 21 Stanford Cardinal as 9.5-point favorites on the road. This game will be a chance for USC quarterback Matt Barkley to have the spotlight to himself with Andrew Luck playing on Sundays now.
