The 2012 college football season is only three weeks old and we have already seen our share of big wins, big losses, and plenty of big plays but all we care about is a big return on our investment.
The following is a look at the biggest line moves, biggest underdogs, and biggest battles on tap for this week’s college football schedule. All lines are provided by 5Dimes.
Biggest College Football Line Moves - Week 4
No. 21 Michigan State opened as a 28.5-point home favorite against Eastern Michigan. The betting public must think that the Spartans are looking to take out their frustrations on the Eagles after last week’s 20-3 pounding at the hands of Notre Dame considering the line has jumped to 33 points.
The No. 19 UCLA Bruins have been one of the early surprises this season with a 3-0 start including a 36-30 win over Nebraska, but the bettors must not be convinced. They were opened as 11-point home favorites for this Saturday’s Pac-12 showdown against Oregon State but that spread has been whittled-down to 7.5 points. This could also be due to the Beavers' stunning 10-7 upset of Wisconsin in Week 2.
It is hard to believe that Arkansas was opened as just a two-point favorite at home against Rutgers even if it was pummeled by Alabama 52-0 last week. This is still a SEC verse Big East matchup which is probably why the betting public has pushed this line to 7 points in favor of the Razorbacks.
Biggest College Football Underdogs - Week 4
It is little wonder that No. 1 Alabama has been opened as a 49.5-point home favorite against the Sun Belt’s Florida Atlantic Owls in light of the fact that it just beat fellow SEC foe Arkansas by more than 50 points.
Ohio State may not be eligible for the postseason, but new head coach Urban Myers has his 3-0 Buckeyes playing at a very high level. This Saturday they are 37-point home favorites against the 0-2 UAB Blazers from Conference USA.
Going back to the SEC, No. 23 Mississippi State is a 34.5-point home favorite against South Alabama, Tennessee hosts Akron as a 35-point favorite, and No. 14 Florida is favored by 24.5 points at home in a conference matchup against Kentucky.
Biggest College Football Battles - Week 4
It is going to be a tough decision where to tune your TV dial come Saturday night with four huge showdowns on the slate. It all starts with No. 18 Michigan traveling to South Bend as a 5.5-point underdog to face No. 11 Notre Dame in a 7:30 p.m. ET start. Just 20 minutes later, No. 15 Kansas State and No. 6 Oklahoma kick things off in a Big 12 battle, with the Sooners favored at home by two touchdowns. The ACC clash between No. 10 Clemson and No. 4 Florida State is set to get underway at 8 p.m ET. The Seminoles are also favored by 14 points at home in that one. Once you catch your breath, be sure to tune in at 10:30 p.m. ET to catch the start of the No.22 Arizona at No. 3 Oregon game, with the Ducks currently 23-point home favorites in this Pac-12 tilt.
