Clemson’s six-year reign atop the ACC came to an end last season, but the Tigers (10-2 SU, 6-6 ATS) can claim conference supremacy once again with a victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels (9-3, 5-6-1). Both teams are coming off losses in their regular-season finales.
Tigers vs Tar Heels Sportsbook Odds
Early bettors liked Clemson’s chances of bouncing back from last week’s loss to South Carolina, betting the Tigers up to -8 after Clemson opened as touchdown chalk. There was also early interest in the OVER, moving the total up to 61.5 from the opener of 60.

Clemson QB Has Thrown Interceptions In Five Straight, Could Be On Short Leash
Any hopes the Tigers had of reaching the College Football Playoff died last week with a stunning 31-30 loss to South Carolina, snapping Clemson’s 40-game winning streak at home. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei misfired on 21 of his 29 passes, including a second-half interception that snuffed out a promising Tigers drive.
Although coach Dabo Swinney has told reporters that Uiagalelei will be the Tigers’ starting quarterback against North Carolina, don’t be surprised if the junior is on a short leash. Uiagalelei has been intercepted at least once in each of his last five games and was benched for freshman Cade Klubnik in two of those contests.
UNC’s Record-Setting Freshman Quarterback Has Struggled Down The Stretch
As goes quarterback Drake Maye, so go the Tar Heels. Despite setting a program single-season record with more than 3,750 passing yards this year, UNC’s star freshman has struggled down the stretch.
Maye has averaged just 217.5 passing yards in his last two games, throwing only one touchdown during that span as the Tar Heels finished the regular season with two straight losses — including a 21-17 loss to Georgia Tech two weeks ago as 22-point favorites.
North Carolina’s defense is also a bit banged up at the moment, playing last week’s regular-season finale against NC State without starting corner Tony Grimes and then losing safety Cam’Ron Kelly to injury in the second quarter. The Tar Heels have allowed at least 28 points in three of their last four games.
Tigers: Keys to Win
As poorly as Uiagalelei played last week, Clemson still might have won the game if not for two fumbles on special teams. The Tigers have the better running attack and the better defense, advantages that tend to matter in championship games.
Tar Heels: Keys to Win
North Carolina has covered four straight as an underdog and should never be counted out of a game with Maye and the eighth-ranked passing attack in the nation. The Tar Heels might also be catching the Tigers at the right time after Clemson’s playoff hopes were dashed last week.
