College Football Recap & Preview

Monster Week left a path of destruction among college football bettors, who cleaned up on some key underdog wagers. Week 2 of the college football season was one to remember; with plenty of bowl-like matchups, college football's top teams rose to the occasion while others crumbled under the pressure. Here's a look back at Week 2 and how it will impact this week's NCAA football betting: SEC showdown SEC play opened early in Week 2, with the Georgia Bulldogs getting rolled by the South Carolina Gamecocks 17-6 as 3-point road underdogs in Columbia. Georgia watched as USC tailback Marcus Lattimore rumbled for 182 yards and two touchdowns and now must face the top offensive team in the country in the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Hogs didn't look great in Week 2 either, scoring just 14 points through three quarters before erupting for 17 points in the final frame for a 31-7 win over the UL-Monroe Warhawks. Arkansas failed to cover as a lofty 33.5-point favorite, marking the second straight week the Razorbacks have lost ATS. Arkansas will be going to the air early and often versus Georgia in Week 3. Quarterback Ryan Mallet has passed for more than 700 yards and six touchdowns in his first two games of 2010. The Bulldogs managed to match that scoring in a 52-41 win over the Razorbacks last season but only put up six points on 253 total yards in last week's loss. Georgia has won six games in a row over Arkansas, going 4-2 against the spread in that span. Since 1987, the Bulldogs are 9-1 versus the Hogs with a 6-4 ATS record.

State of emergency The Florida State Seminoles are still licking their wounds from the 47-17 beating dished out by the Oklahoma Sooners this past weekend. The Noles, who were 7-point underdogs versus Oklahoma, fell behind quickly in the first half and couldn't dig themselves out of that hole in the final two quarters. Florida State meets the MWC's BYU Cougars in Week 3. The Cougars are also coming off a bad loss, losing 35-14 to the spread-heavy Air Force Falcons. Brigham Young bucked against the Falcons' rushing attack, giving up over 400 yards on the ground. The Cougars suffered a classic letdown spot after a big win over the Washington Huskies in Week 1 of the season.

The Seminoles must be better against the pass if they want to avoid another damaging blow to their bowl hopes. Florida State allowed Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones to throw for 380 yards and four touchdowns on Saturday. It will have an easier day against BYU QB Riley Nelson, who appears to be hanging on to the starting job by a thread after completing just 42 percent of his passes versus Air Force. These non-conference foes have met three times, with Florida State winning all three meetings. The Seminoles are 2-1 ATS versus the Cougars, with their most recent win and cover coming in a 54-28 victory as 8.5-point underdogs last season.
