College Football Week 2 Betting Recap

Three more ranked teams went down to defeat in Week 2 of the college football betting slate, but this time around one of them managed to lose to an unranked school.

And that team was Ohio State, who sat at No. 8 in the polls heading into Week 2 of the schedule even without Braxton Miller at the helm, but got thumped 35-21 as an 11-point favorite by then-unranked Virginia Tech.

Miller's replacement J.T. Barrett went just 9 of 29 for 219 passing yards with one TD and three interceptions in that loss.

The other two ranked teams to lose in Week 2 were Stanford and Michigan State, with the Cardinal falling 13-10 to USC as a 3-point favorite, and the Spartans getting beat 46-27 by Oregon as a 12-point underdog. Stanford entered the week at No. 13 in the polls, with USC at No. 14, Michigan State at No. 7, and Oregon at No. 3.

Florida State topped The Citadel 37-12 (falling well short of covering the huge 58.5-point spread) in Week 2, and Alabama blanked Florida Atlantic by a 41-0 score as a 40-point favorite on the betting lines - if you picked the right time to wager. The Seminoles and Crimson Tide were 1-2 in last week's AP Top 25; for this week Florida State is No. 1, Oregon is No. 2, and Alabama is No. 3.

Elsewhere, Baylor didn't even bother sending out star quarterback Bryce Petty and his sore back in Week 2 as the Bears routed Northwestern State 70-6 and covered the 47.5-point spread. Texas A&M blasted Lamar 73-3 and covered a 44.5-point spread, and Clemson covered a 34-point spread in a 73-7 thumping of South Carolina State.

Finally, Notre Dame made their case for an improvement on their No. 16 ranking with a 31-0 win over Michigan as a 3.5-point favorite at the sportsbooks in Week 2. Fighting Irish quarterback Everett Golson went 23 of 34 for 226 yards passing with three touchdown strikes against the Wolverines.
