College Football Week 3 Potential Upsets

For the first time in almost four years the South Carolina Gamecocks will take the field as regular season home underdogs, when the Georgia Bulldogs visit on Saturday as 6-point road favorites at Sportsbook.

Big losers to Texas A&M in Week 1, the Gamecocks responded with a 33-23 win over East Carolina last week, but failed to cover a 14.5-point spread.

The game is expected to be a ground battle with a pair of star running backs, Georgia’s Todd Gurley and South Carolina’s Mike Davis, going head-to-head.

While the Dawgs hold the edge in recent games against South Carolina, 8-4 SU in their last 12, the Gamecocks have been dominant at home, Sportsbooks of 21 SU prior to their Sportsbook night loss to the Aggies.

Georgia’s new starting QB Hutson Mason struggled in Week 1, particularly without injured wide receivers Malcolm Mitchell and Justin Scott-Wesley, whose status remains unclear for Saturday’s game.

If Mason continues to struggle and the Gamecocks' defense can contain Gurley, South Carolina may not just cover, but also post their third straight home win over their SEC East rivals.

Matchup Reports: Georgia vs. South Carolina | WVU vs. Maryland | Arkansas vs. Texas Tech

After covering as double-digit favorites for the first time in almost two years in their convincing 54-0 win over Towson last week, the West Virginia Mountaineers travel to Maryland where they will face the Terrapins as 3.5-point underdogs at Sportsbook.

The 1-1 Mountaineers are off to a solid start this season following a forgettable 2013. Led by QB Clint Trickett’s 365-yard passing performance, the team made Alabama work for a 33-23 win in Week 1. Trickett also filled the sky against Towson, while the defense held the Tigers to just 122 total yards.

West Virginia have owned the 2-0 Terrapins in recent meetings, 7-1 SU in their last eight meetings, 5-2 ATS. Combined with Maryland’s recent home struggles, just 1-4 SU in their last five, opportunity may await the Mountaineers.

The Arkansas Razorbacks visit Texas Tech this weekend as 3-point underdogs at Sportsbook.

Arkansas are coming off a huge 73-7 win over Nicholls State; a welcome tonic for a squad that had lost their 10 previous SU. However, the team is 3-2 ATS in their last five, and will face a Red Raiders team that has covered just once in their last eight overall, and are 0-5 ATS in their last five at home.
