Miami looks for its fifth win in a row
Miami opened the season with a difficult contest against then-No. 25 LSU at AT&T Stadium in Texas. The Hurricanes dropped that game 33-17 but have bounced back, winning their last four and outscoring their opponents 204-51. Miami will also have added rest from last week as it played on Thursday night with a 47-10 triumph over North Carolina.
The Hurricanes have been fairly solid both offensively and defensively this season, which has led them to a 4-1 record. The ’Canes are now led by freshman quarterback N’Kosi Perry as he has beaten out senior Malik Rosier for the starting signal-caller spot after Week 4. Last year’s 24-20 victory for Miami over Florida State was its first since 2010, snapping a seven-game losing streak to the Seminoles. The Hurricanes now seek their first win streak over the Seminoles since 2004. Additionally, Miami hasn’t secured a win in front of its home fans over Florida State since 2004 when it claimed a 16-10 win.
Florida State is having a tough time scoring this season
Florida State had high hopes entering the season as it was ranked No. 19 heading into Week 1 but was swarmed by then-No. 20 Virginia Tech 24-3 in that game. The Seminoles also fell 30-7 in a road game vs Syracuse in Week 3 and now carry a 3-2 record into Week 6. Florida State also needed to mount a fourth-quarter comeback to slide past Louisville 28-24 last week.
The offense has been a huge issue for the Seminoles through the early stages of the year, scoring just 22.2 points per game, which is ranked 110th in the nation. Junior quarterback Deondre Francois has been good for Florida State, though, throwing for 1,377 yards (14th-most in the NCAA) with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. Rushing the ball has been the key issue as the Seminoles have rushed for just 487 total yards this season, which is 118th in the nation. My take on Florida State vs Miami
I think that Miami will get a home victory over Florida State for the first time in 14 years and in doing so will cover the 13-point spread. I think the Hurricanes defense is just too stifling for the Seminoles and I have a hard time seeing how Florida State will score points, while Miami has the 16th-best offense in the nation so far this season. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes have won four straight games with an average winning margin of 38.25. Lastly, the Seminoles are scoring 22.2 points per game while yielding an average of 24.6 points against lesser talent than Miami and are 0-9 ATS in their last nine games vs the ACC.
