Can Georgia Stay Undefeated Visiting Rival Florida?

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (7-0 SU, 5-2 ATS) are 8-0 SU and 5-3 ATS in their last eight games against SEC opponents since suffering their last in-conference loss to the Florida Gators (4-3, 3-4) last year. The Bulldogs will try to avenge that loss at the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party on Saturday in Jacksonville.

Georgia News & Notes

The Bulldogs won easily but failed to cover the spread as 21.5-point favorites in their 30-13 win over the Kentucky Wildcats on October 16. Stetson Bennett went 14-for-20 for 250 passing yards and three passing touchdowns with no interceptions in the win and has now thrown 11 touchdown passes with only two interceptions in 2021. JT Daniels is expected to return from injury on Saturday and head coach Kirby Smart has indicated he will use both Bennett and Daniels down the stretch.

Regardless of who has been under center for the Bulldogs, they haven’t needed to do much with Georgia’s defense so thoroughly shutting down the opposition. The Bulldogs have the best defense in the nation by a wide margin, ranking No. 1 in both total defense, allowing only 207.1 yards per game, and scoring defense, allowing 6.6 points per game.

Florida News & Notes

The Gators entered their last game against the LSU Tigers as 12.5-point road favorites and suffered a 49-42 loss. Florida’s defense got lit up by Tyrion Davis-Price, who rushed for 287 yards and three touchdowns in the LSU win.

Turnovers also contributed heavily to the loss as Emory Jones and Anthony Richardson threw two interceptions each. Richardson helped offset his mistakes with three touchdown passes and one score on the ground.

Jones had his best game of the season in a 42-0 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores the week before the LSU game with 273 passing yards and four touchdowns. But after throwing two more interceptions against the Tigers, he now carries a 10-to-9 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Both Jones and Richardson are expected to see action against Georgia.

How Georgia Will Cover

Georgia will cover the same way it has all season, with a balanced offensive attack and a smothering defense. Florida’s propensity to turn the ball over will work right into Georgia’s strengths on defense. As long as the offense does its part in this one, the defense should take care of the rest.

How Florida Will Cover

Anthony Richardson is the type of quarterback who can give opposing defenses fits with his ability to make explosive plays with his feet. To cover the spread against Georgia, Florida will likely need a great game from Richardson and a strong showing from its defense.
