NC State, North Carolina Set To Buck Totals Trend

The NC State Wolfpack and North Carolina Tar Heels both seek redemption Saturday as the bitter rivals renew acquaintances at Kenan Stadium. The Wolfpack (4-1 SU, 4-1 ATS) are still seething over a humiliating 41-10 home loss to the Tar Heels last November, while North Carolina (3-1 SU, 2-2 ATS) needs a bounce-back after falling 31-28 to Florida State last week.

Opening Odds Analysis

The Tar Heels opened as 14.5-point favorites, but that line has quickly shifted to -16.5 at the majority of sportsbooks. The total of 65.5 has held steady.

NC State News & Notes

The Wolfpack are on a roll with three straight wins and have scored 30 or more points in each of them. Even more impressively, they found a way to prevail 31-20 against Duke last week despite struggling on the ground, where they’ve made their bones for the majority of the season. Devin Leary and Bailey Hockman both had TD passes for NC State, which had 237 yards through the air.

As a significant underdog for Saturday’s showdown with the Tar Heels, NC State will almost certainly need a better showing than the 3.1 yards per carry average it posted vs the Blue Devils. The dynamic backfield duo of Ricky Person Jr. and Zonovan Knight has racked up 699 yards on 130 carries with six touchdowns, averaging an impressive 5.38 yards per attempt.

North Carolina News & Notes

After playing nearly flawless football over the first three games on their ACC calendar, a second-quarter meltdown in which they allowed 24 points put the Tar Heels in a hole they couldn’t quite escape. And while North Carolina did well to trim a 24-point halftime deficit to three, a terrible drop from Javonte Williams on the potential game-winning drive squashed the comeback.

Don't be surprised to see Williams put together a strong bounce-back performance; he comes into the weekend with 602 total yards (402 rushing, 200 receiving) and nine touchdowns, and finished with 100 total yards and three scores in North Carolina’s one-sided win over the Wolfpack last season. His daily fantasy price tag will be steep, but Williams’ usage can’t be ignored.

Betting Pick: OVER 65.5

Both teams have proven capable of racking up the points, while their defensive performances have been less stellar. Look for the Wolfpack and Tar Heels to trade scores all afternoon long.
