NCAAF Free Pick From Linebacker: Oregon vs Auburn

Linebacker Oregon Auburn Betting Pick

Oregon Ducks vs Auburn Tigers (AUB -3.5, O/U 56)

A rematch of the 2010 BCS national championship game will take place at AT&T Stadium in Dallas this Saturday. Auburn will face a ranked Pac-12 team for the second straight season in its opening game, squaring off against the 11th-ranked Oregon Ducks.

The Tigers enter Saturday’s matchup as 3.5-point favorites, despite starting a true freshman quarterback against Heisman hopeful and senior Justin Herbert. The Linebacker projects a final score of 32.3-23.2 in favor of the Tigers, so we like Auburn to cover the spread in this one. The Linebacker’s model suggests a $113 wager on Auburn -3.5 for an average $100 bettor.

Why Will Auburn Cover the Spread?

  • The Tigers enter with an elite defensive line, returning three key starters who should curb Oregon’s rushing attack, as they allowed just 3.7 yards per carry last season. Oregon had a prolific rushing attack a season ago, ranking 12th overall in rush attempts, 19th with 5.20 yards/rush, and 12th with 251 rushing yards per game.
  • Oregon’s passing attack will have to carry the load, which will be difficult considering their lack of receiving options. Thanks to injuries to three returning pass catchers and leading receiver Dillon Mitchell heading to the NFL, Oregon will send out just two receivers who caught more than one pass in 2018.
  • The Ducks’ passing game also has to square off against a secondary returning four of five starters. Auburn’s pass defense allowed just 182.4 yards per game through the air (18th overall) and a measly 5.96 yards per attempt, which ranked seventh-best in the country.
  • Auburn’s offensive line features five seniors, which should help true freshman QB Bo Nix remain upright against an Oregon defensive front that ranked 28th in the country with 2.54 sacks per game last season.

How to Bet the Total in Oregon vs Auburn

This game currently features an OVER/UNDER of 56. The Linebacker’s projected score totals 55.5 points (32.3-23.2), giving us no edge on the total in this one.
