What started as a dirty rumor about Nick Saban wanting to coach the Texas Longhorns culminated this week in the resignation of classy coach Mack Brown.
His teams won 158 games, a pair of Big 12 crowns, and one national title with Vince Young at QB during his 16 years.
With Saban firmly and comfortably entrenched in Alabama, the search for the next Texas coach began in earnest and online sportsbook Sportsbook was quick on the trigger with prop bets.
Who will be the next Head Coach of the Texas Longhorns?
Good question, and there are plenty of candidates, with Charlie Strong the perceived top betting choice at 2/1. The Louisville coach is popular and has turned the Cardinals into a powerhouse as the school looks to move to the ACC next season.
Art Briles is next on the Texas coach betting prop list at 9/2. The Baylor coach has turned the Bears into a BCS threat in recent years.
James Franklin at Vanderbilt is 5/1, and Oklahoma State boss Mike Gundy is next at 7/1. Gundy’s Cowboys have emerged as perennial Big 12 contenders.
Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly was rumored to be a candidate to succeed Mack Brown, but he dismissed that rumor Monday. Still, Sportsbook has him at 10/1, along with other current NFL head coaches Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh and Jim Harbaugh in San Francisco, both at 20/1.
