Irish Look to Continue November Dominance

Jack Coan & Notre Dame favored against Stanford in Week 13.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish (10-1 SU, 8-3 ATS) are 10-0 SU and ATS in their last 10 games played in November. The Irish will try to pick up another November win and cover on Saturday when they visit the struggling Stanford Cardinal (3-8, 3-8).

Opening Odds Analysis

The Fighting Irish opened as 17-point road favorites and have since been bet up slightly to Notre Dame -18. The total in this matchup has also moved up, sitting at 52.5 points after opening over the weekend at 51.5 points. Notre Dame is 8-0 SU in its last eight road games.

Notre Dame News & Notes

Jack Coan completed 15 of 20 passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns and the team rushed for 212 yards and three scores in Notre Dame’s 55-0 blowout win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday.

The Fighting Irish led 45-0 at the half and cruised to a dominant win and cover as 18-point home favorites. Notre Dame improved to 6-0 SU and ATS over its last six games since suffering its only loss of the season to the undefeated Cincinnati Bearcats.

The Fighting Irish are doing everything they can to make a case to the College Football Playoff committee that they belong in the nation’s top four. The team has won its last three games by a combined score of 117-9. Another big win over a lowly Stanford team likely won’t do much to move the needle, but this game serves as Notre Dame’s last chance to make a statement.

Stanford News & Notes

Stanford’s defense got mauled by the California Bears’ rushing attack last Saturday, allowing 352 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries en route to a 41-11 loss at home.

The Cardinal got off to a solid start this season with a 3-2 SU and ATS record that included outright upsets of the USC Trojans and Oregon Ducks, but since then Stanford is 0-6 SU and ATS over its last six games.

Tanner McKee’s drop-off at quarterback has been a big part of the problem. The sophomore threw 11 touchdowns with no interceptions through his first five starts this season. Over his last four appearances, McKee has thrown a total of only three touchdown passes with seven interceptions over that stretch.

How Notre Dame Will Cover

Notre Dame is playing lights-out on both sides of the ball. There is no reason for the Fighting Irish to let up in their final game of the regular season, and their best effort should be plenty good enough to blow out the reeling Cardinal.

How Stanford Will Cover

Tanner McKee and the Cardinal will need to find their early-season form in this season finale against the Fighting Irish. Keeping the turnovers to a minimum and feeding off the home crowd’s energy will be key to keeping this game close enough to cover the spread.
