Ohio State, Michigan Set For High-Scoring Rematch

The Michigan Wolverines look like a well-oiled machine heading into their biggest game of the season – but they’ve been down this road before as they prepare to host the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday afternoon. Michigan had reeled off 10 straight wins going into last year’s meeting with the Buckeyes – then was promptly shellacked 62-39 by the hosts.

  • Date/Time: November 30, 12 noon ET
  • TV Coverage: FOX
  • Opening Odds: Ohio State -9.5 | O/U 55 (Line History)

Opening Odds Analysis

Ohio State opened as a nearly double-digit favorite, marking the fifth time in the past seven meetings that the home team is receiving points. Ohio State is 6-0 SU but just 2-4 ATS in those games.

Ohio State News & Notes

The Buckeyes did what they needed to do in order to remain in the hunt for the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff, defeating a hearty Penn State side 28-17. But a second consecutive non-cover (Ohio State entered -20) might dissuade voters from moving the Buckeyes past LSU, which also remained unbeaten in a 56-20 home drubbing of Arkansas.

With the Tigers unlikely to yield, Ohio State could use another effort like the one it put forth last year against the Wolverines when it compiled 567 total yards while getting six passing touchdowns from current Washington Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins. 2019 starter Justin Fields could be equal to the task, leading the Big Ten in TD passes (33) while throwing just one interception.

Michigan News & Notes

The Wolverines have been one of the most impressive teams in the country since a narrow loss to Penn State, racking up four consecutive victories while covering each of them by an average of 18.8 points. And a victory over one of their fiercest longtime rivals would lock Michigan into a premier bowl game, though it likely wouldn’t be enough for a CFP berth.

With slowing down the top offense in the country likely proving difficult – even for one of the top defenses in FBS – the key to victory Saturday will likely revolve around what Michigan does on offense. Enter QB Shea Patterson, who has 12 TD passes and just one interception in his last four games and threw for three touchdowns in last year’s one-sided defeat.

Betting Pick: OVER

The teams come in riding a six-game OVER streak in their head-to-head rivalry – and with both sides humming along on the offensive side of the ball, another high-scoring game appears imminent.
