Ohio State News & Notes

Ryan Day’s team appears to have found its footing after a marginal start – at least by Ohio State standards – that included a loss at home to Oregon.

Quick starts have keyed the turnaround, which has the Buckeyes sprinting toward a CFP spot. Consider that in Weeks 1 to 3, Ohio State was outscored 34-30 in the first half. Since then, the Buckeyes have walloped opponents 297-74 before the break.

That translates to an average score of roughly 37-9, meaning Ohio State has essentially gone into halftime with a four-touchdown lead in every game since Week 4 began.

Michigan News & Notes

Looking for their first win against Ohio State since 2011, the Wolverines appear to be better positioned than in previous years.

They are ranked seventh in scoring defense, allowing 16.3 points per game, and are No. 15 in the country in scoring offense, averaging 36.9 points per game, displaying the type of balance Harbaugh has been seeking.

Michigan’s run game is averaging 218.4 yards on the ground per game, which is second in the Big Ten and 15th in the FBS, allowing the Wolverines to work with play-action and control the clock.

How Ohio State Will Cover

There is perhaps no team playing as well as the Buckeyes are right now. Their offense is humming and their defense is stepping up when they need it. All the Buckeyes need to do is continue what they have been doing.

How Michigan Will Cover

The Wolverines will need their front four to control the line of scrimmage on defense, but also will need to produce with the ground game to keep CJ Stroud and Ohio State’s offense off the field and limit their possessions. If they can do that and capitalize on red-zone trips, they have a shot.
