Oklahoma Looking To Exact Revenge On Ohio State

An absolutely loaded non-conference schedule continues this week and is highlighted by the Oklahoma Sooners taking on the Ohio State Buckeyes. These two programs met last season in Norman, a game that saw Ohio State cruise to a 45-24 victory over the reeling Oklahoma squad. Now the Sooners will look for redemption when they travel to Columbus.

Shark Bites
  • Ohio State is 6-1 ATS in its last 7 games against the Big 12.
  • The total has gone OVER in 7 of Oklahoma’s last 8 games on the road.
  • J.T. Barrett went 14-for-20 for 152 yards and 4 TDs against Oklahoma last season.

Ohio State controlled last season’s meeting and avoided mistakes, as they rushed the ball 48 times and dominated possession. Oklahoma struggled to stop Ohio State’s rushing attack and quarterback Baker Mayfield forced passes, resulting in two interceptions for the then-junior.

That game might have helped Mayfield refocus on ball protection, as he has thrown for 36 touchdowns and six interceptions in OU’s 11 games since that loss. The quarterback also had a nearly perfect game last week against UTEP, when he went 19-for-20 for 329 yards and three touchdowns with no picks. Mayfield mixed up his targets with 10 different receivers catching a pass from the senior, but tight end Mark Andrews was clearly the favored target.

Ohio State got off to a slow start in their season opener, as they came out of halftime down 14-13 to Indiana but got straightened out after the break. The Buckeyes outscored the Hoosiers 36-7 in the second half thanks in large part to freshman J.K. Dobbins rushing for 181 yards on 29 carries. J.T. Barrett was his steady self, throwing for 304 yards and three TDs with no INTs.
