Sportsbook Odds Analysis

At the time of writing Sunday night, there hadn’t been much action on either the spread or the total. Auburn had held steady as a 1-point favorite while the total had seen a slight move to the OVER, ticking up to 66.5.

Ole Miss News & Notes

Heisman contender Matt Corral gets most of the credit for the Rebels’ potent offense, but the quarterback’s right arm isn’t the only reason Mississippi is averaging nearly 42 points per game. With Corral hampered by an ankle injury last week against LSU, the Rebels turned to their running game to earn more than half of their yards in a 31-17 victory.

Snoop Conner led the way with 117 rushing yards on just 14 attempts, while Jerrion Ealy, Henry Parrish and Corral also ran for touchdowns. The Rebels averaged more than five yards per carry on their 49 attempts and are now running for 263.3 yards per contest, the third-highest average in the country.

The Ole Miss defense also stepped up its game last week, forcing a pivotal turnover on downs near its goal line and recording three turnovers. It was the second straight strong performance for the defense, which has allowed 43 points in its last two games after being shredded for 93 points in consecutive outings against Alabama and Arkansas.

Auburn News & Notes

In the midst of a tough three-game stretch against top-10 opponents, at least the Tigers got a chance to catch their breath. Auburn enjoyed a bye week following its impressive 38-23 win over Arkansas in Week 7, and history suggests extra rest bodes well for the Tigers against Ole Miss. Over the past decade, Auburn is 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS in its first game following a bye.

The week off could also help the Tigers get one of their top defensive players back in the lineup. Coach Bryan Harsin told reporters he’s optimistic that linebacker and co-captain Owen Pappoe could return this week after missing the team’s previous four games with a leg injury.

How Ole Miss Will Cover

A healthier Corral would be a huge help, and not just because of his passing ability. Corral is also the team’s leader in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, but his ankle injury limited him to just 24 yards on 12 carries last week against LSU.

How Auburn Will Cover

Home field should be a huge advantage for the Tigers, who have won seven of their last eight games against the Rebels at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Meanwhile, Ole Miss has lost nine of its last 12 road games overall and struggled to win at Tennessee earlier this month.
