Opening Odds Analysis

Early action on the opening line of the Tigers at -26 has been fairly even but has leaned slightly toward the home team to bump the line up to Clemson -26.5. The total for this matchup is set at 55 points. Pittsburgh is 3-8 SU and 5-6 ATS in its last 11 games as a betting underdog.

Pittsburgh News & Notes

After going 3-0 SU and 1-1-1 in September, the Panthers limped through October with a 0-4 SU and ATS record. Pittsburgh was giving up only 10 points per game before hitting that four-game skid in which it allowed 34.3 points per game. But in a sudden turn of events, the Panthers have strung together back-to-back dominant performances in November.

Pittsburgh crushed the Florida State Seminoles 41-17 as a 1.5-point road favorite and followed that up with a 47-14 win as a 6.5-point underdog at home against the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Senior quarterback Kenny Pickett had 404 passing yards and two passing touchdowns in the blowout win over Virginia Tech. Pickett was out for Pittsburgh’s two worst losses of the season; the Panthers are 6-2 with him under center and both of those setbacks came by just one point.

Clemson News & Notes

D.J. Uiagalelei played well enough in relief of Trevor Lawrence to give his team a chance to win in Clemson’s last game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, completing 29 of his 44 pass attempts for 439 passing yards and two passing touchdowns without throwing an interception.

But in a rare off-night from the Clemson defense, the Tigers allowed 518 total yards and came out on the losing end of a 47-40 double-overtime loss to Notre Dame.

That game took place way back on November 7. Clemson had a scheduled bye on November 14 and then had its scheduled game against Florida State on November 21 controversially canceled at the last minute when a single Tigers player tested positive for the coronavirus. The Tigers will look to shake off three weeks of rust on Saturday while Lawrence will be playing his first game since October 24.

Betting Pick: Clemson -26

Pittsburgh is playing some great football in November and has looked great this season in general when Pickett has been healthy. But this Clemson team has had three weeks to stew over its loss to Notre Dame and now feels slighted by the Florida State cancellation. Dabo Swinney will have his squad fired up and in top form on Saturday.
