SEC dominates NCAA opening odds

The SEC boasts eight of the top 23 teams according to the AP Top 25 poll, so it’s not surprising that there are several battles of ranked schools this week.

Less surprising still that the conference on a 5-year national title winning streak should be providing those matchups.

No. 20 Mississippi State visits No. 23 Auburn at noon Saturday with the visitors sitting as 7-point chalk. Normally, you back the defending champions at home, especially as an underdog, but the Bulldogs are improving while few believe the Tigers are for real. Still, Auburn is 9-1 SU and 7-2 ATS their past 9 games against Miss State. One of those ATS losses was the memorable 3-2 game where a field goal and a safety accounted for all the scoring in what seemed like a hockey score.

At 4:30, another top SEC battle kicks off in Georgia where the Bulldogs host the South Carolina Gamecocks. The visitors are 3-point favorites as they look to build upon their 5-1-1 ATS run against Georgia in recent years.

Alabama visits Penn State in one of the biggest battles of Week 2. The second-ranked Tide look for a big non-conference road win and are 9.5-point favorites to do it against the Nittany Lions.

No. 15 Arkansas hosts New Mexico Saturday night and the line is a staggering 36.5 points for the Razorbacks to cover. That is the biggest college football point spread of the week in case you were wondering.

The biggest total on the board as of Tuesday is 65 in the Arizona vs Oklahoma State match where two powerhouse offenses are clashing Thursday.

In night games, No. 22 Florida hosts UAB as 21.5-point favorites and No. 2 LSU hosts little school neighbour Northwestern State a week after a huge win over Oregon. (There is no line on this game yet, but expect 5Dimes to have one shortly, as they are one of the only sportsbooks to offer action on games involving Division II schools).

Notre Dame tries to get back on the winning track after an upset loss to South Florida, but they are in tough again vs Michigan. They are favored by 3.5 points at Bovada early in the week.
