ncaa free pick south carolina kentucky

South Carolina @ Kentucky (UK -1.5, O/U 50.5)

South Carolina makes its way up to the Bluegrass State to take on the undefeated Kentucky Wildcats. The 17th-ranked Wildcats are 1.5-point favorites, but we expect the Gamecocks to win outright 59.1 percent of the time and cover the spread. Linebacker suggests a wager of $130 on South Carolina +1.5 for an average $100 bettor.

Why will South Carolina cover the spread?

  • It will be a battle of styles at Kroger Field on Saturday night. The Kentucky Wildcats enter the game leading the SEC with 269 rushing yards per game, while the Gamecocks’ strength lies in their passing game. South Carolina ranks fifth in the SEC with 279 yards per game through the air and quarterback Jake Bentley’s 68.3 percent completion rate is 24th in the FBS.
  • Will Muschamp’s defense should have success in slowing down Benny Snell Jr. and the run game, as we project Kentucky to finish with just 204 yards rushing. The Gamecock D will try to force Terry Wilson to air it out as much as possible.
  • The UK quarterback is averaging just 116 passing yards per game and has thrown four interceptions compared to only two touchdowns this season. Slowing down the SEC’s top rush offense and forcing the Wildcats to throw will be key if South Carolina wants to end its four-year losing streak against the Wildcats.
  • In order to outscore a Kentucky offense averaging 34.5 points per game, Jake Bentley will need to perform well against a passing defense surrendering a measly 173.5 passing yards per game. Linebacker forecasts he’ll surpass that total easily, as the Gamecocks project to finish with 226 passing yards.
  • Bentley should also have plenty of time in the pocket. SC’s offensive line has allowed only three sacks in as many games this season, while Kentucky is currently ninth in the SEC with eight sacks this year.

South Carolina @ Kentucky: How to bet the total

  • We favor the OVER in this matchup. Linebacker projects a final score totaling 54 points and the OVER/UNDER number is sitting around 50. Both teams are averaging north of 34 points on the season, and while each defense is solid, we like the offenses to prevail and push the total north of 50. We recommend a wager of $43 for an average $100 bettor with the total at 50.5.
