Texas Hopes to Snap Out of Its Slump Against TCU

The Texas Longhorns have lost five of their last six games to TCU, most recently falling 37-27 to the Horned Frogs last October as 1-point underdogs. Texas will be a big favorite this time around hosting a Horned Frogs team that has gone 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS in its last six games since that win over Texas.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Sportsbook spread of Texas -13 and total of 60 points have remained consistent in the early stages of the week. TCU has gone just 1-10 SU and 4-7 ATS in its last 11 games as a betting underdog but has covered the spread in three of its last four games as a double-digit underdog.

TCU News & Notes

TCU was once a perennial contender under head coach Gary Patterson, recording six campaigns with 11 or more wins in seven seasons in the Mountain West Conference and three through the Horned Frogs’ first six seasons in the Big 12.

But with a 7-6 SU record in 2018 and a 5-7 SU record in 2019, the Horned Frogs are trending in the wrong direction. They finished last season on a disappointing 2-6 SU and ATS run through Big 12 conference play.

The Horned Frogs lost but covered the spread in a 37-34 loss as 4.5-point underdogs last Saturday against the Iowa State Cyclones. Quarterback Max Duggan played well in the loss, going 16-for-19 with 241 passing yards and three passing touchdowns to only one interception. Duggan will need to improve on his freshman season this year if TCU hopes to get back into bowl contention in 2020.

Texas News & Notes

Quarterback Sam Ehlinger improved in each of his first three seasons with the Longhorns and appears to have taken another step forward in his senior year. Ehlinger is off to a red-hot start to 2020 with 688 passing yards, 10 passing touchdowns, one rushing major and only one interception through his first two games.

The Longhorns covered a 45-point spread in a 59-3 win over UTEP and settled for a win without a cover as 17.5-point favorites in a 63-56 overtime win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders last Saturday.

Dating back to last season, the Longhorns are now 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS over their last four games. Texas went 8-5 SU last season with a 5-4 SU record in conference play. This year’s team is hoping to do a lot better, namely winning the Big 12 championship for the first time since 2009.

Betting Pick: OVER 60

Last season’s matchup between these two teams produced 64 points. Both squads are coming into this game off high-octane shootouts. It’s difficult to imagine we don’t see plenty of offensive fireworks in this one.
