Herman Favorite To Be Next LSU Head Coach

After plenty of grumblings from the fan base and a 2-2 record to start the season, LSU fired head football coach Les Miles. The team promoted defensive line coach Ed Orgeron to interim head coach for the remainder of the season, but the Tigers are almost certainly looking for a coach with a bigger name.

Houston coach Tom Herman opened as the +125 favorite to become the next full-time head coach of LSU at Bovada. Herman was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for four different schools – including Ohio State – between 2005 and 2014 before getting the job at Houston. Herman took the Cougars from 8-5 to 13-1 in his first season as coach and opened the 2016 year undefeated as well.

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher (+300) is also reportedly in the mix for the LSU job. Fisher is also an offensive coach who guided FSU to a 68-14 record and a national championship between 2010 and 2015.

One notable name on the board is Chip Kelly (+1500). Though he is currently coaching the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL, Kelly proved that his spread offense was nearly unstoppable at the college level with Oregon. However, it is Kelly’s first year in San Fran and the organization is likely to give him at least two seasons even if he completely bombs in 2016.
