The Commanders long odds indicate that they are a few years away from true contention in the Super Bowl, and NFC.

Last year's starting quarterback Sam Howell is gone, as are Ron Rivera and Eric Bienemy. General Manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn bring a new philosophy to Washington. The drafting of Jayden Daniels brings hope to a franchise that has had little since the RGIII days.

Unfortunately, the signings of veteran players on their last legs like Zach Ertz and Bobby Wagner does little to move the needle for the Commanders. Other than defensive tackles Da'Ron Payne and Jonathan Allen, Washington has few true blue-chip players. Terry McLaurin is an outstanding receiver, but their offensive line also leaves a lot to be desired. On top of that, there will be growing pains in Daniels' first season in the NFL.

I'll pass on these markets for now, as the Commanders will be going threw an adjustment process in 2024. For the first time in awhile, they are set up for future success, but this season could be rough.

Washington's ATS record wasn't great last season. But, the Commanders finished a sparkling 6-2 ATS as road underdogs and will look to play the role of spoiler once again in 2024. Be on the lookout for games like those against the Bengals, Ravens, Eagles and Cowboys where the Commanders will be live dogs. With Daniels under center, they may be the backdoor cover team of the season.

Sportsbooks don't have a great read on whether Washington will go over or under their season win total of 6.5. To be honest, it's tough to find seven wins on a schedule that includes playing the Eagles and Cowboys twice and matchups with the hardnosed AFC North. I'm on the UNDER 6.5 wins at -106.

Dan Quinn's Commanders will look far different than Ron Rivera's.

But, they're still a longshot to make the playoffs this season. Plying their trade in a division that contains contending teams in Dallas and Philadelphia makes things tough. I can't see the Commanders winning the nine-plus games it will take to make the postseason this year.

2024 Washington Commanders NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds

Odds as of September 5

At +600, I like Daniels as an Offensive Rookie of the Year value bet.

The LSU product will start from day one in Washington and projects to have a monster year statistically. He'll have free roam to put up numbers in an offense that will be based around his skillset under Kliff Kingsbury. Remember, Kyler Murray won the 2019 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year under Kinsbury's tutelage while tossing for 20 touchdowns and rushing for four more. I think Jayden Daniels exceeds those numbers in his debut NFL campaign.
