3 Reasons Why the Philadelphia Eagles Will Win Super Bowl 59

Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles are back in the Super Bowl. After coming up short at Super Bowl 57, Sirianni's squad will be more motivated than ever to win the big game. The stage is set but the script has yet to be written, and this time, Philadelphia has the pieces necessary to upset the Chiefs and lift the Lombardi Trophy.

Here are three reasons the Eagles will win Super Bowl 59.

1. Saquon Barkley

Kareem Hunt has been a nice addition for the Chiefs, and Derrick Henry was his usual unstoppable self in Baltimore, but no running back has been better than Saquon Barkley this season.

The former Penn State superstar has made his case as the best player in the NFL while rushing for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns on 5.8 yards per carry in 17 games.

Those historic numbers don't even tell the full tale. Consider that since PFF began charting in 2006, Barkley's seven runs of 60-plus yards are the most ever recorded in a season. Incredibly, Saquon has broken free for a 60-plus yard touchdown in all three Eagles' playoff games. Furthermore, he's been a game-breaker all year, leading the league with 54 runs of 10 or more yards.

Make no mistake, if Barkley is given even a sliver of space, he'll take over Super Bowl 59.

2. More talent in the Trenches

Jalen Carter is the best pass-rushing defensive tackle in football. The former Georgia star flat out embarrasses interior offensive lineman on a weekly basis. Carter's strength, athleticism and football IQ make him a nightmare to block. The Florida native has the ability to wreck Kansas City's offensive gameplan and takeover this game.

But, Carter doesn't have to do it all on his own. In fact, Philadelphia is stocked with pass-rushers. Nolan Smith recorded 6.5 sacks this season, and has followed that up with a dominant playoff run. The former Bulldog broke the Eagles record for most sacks in a single playoff in the NFC Championship (4.5), and will have a huge role to play in Super Bowl 59. Plus, Milton Williams, Moro Ojomo, Bryce Huff and Josh Sweat all posted pass-rush win rates above 15%. Oh, and 2024 third-round pick Jalyx Hunt post a QB hit and two hurries last week.

On top of that, all five of the Philadelphia's offensive lineman have a PFF run-blocking grade above 70. Mammoth left tackle Jordan Mailata leads the way with a supreme 94.7 grade, with stud right tackle Lane Johnson at 83.8 and guard Landon Dickerson sitting at 83.5.

Bear in mind, Kansas City's offensive line hardly been a model of consistency. As a matter of fact, left guard Joe Thuney has struggled, allowing five hits and hurries and a sack in four games filling in at left tackle. Philadelphia's mauling offensive and defensive lines can change the entire complexion of Super Bowl 59, and dictate the run of play.

3. Elite Defense

Vic Fangio's scheme has transformed the Eagles defense into an elite unit. Philadelphia finished the 2023 season 31st in passing defense, 30th in points allowed and 29th in red zone touchdown percentage. This year, Philadelphia was second in passing defense, first in yards per pass, and points allowed, and fifth in red zone scoring percentage.

Since Week 10, the Eagles lead the NFL in defensive EPA per play (-0.127) by a wide margin. Fangio's stop-unit is also first in dropback EPA and second in success rate and rushing EPA allowed.

Philadelphia's secondary led the NFL in PFF coverage grade this season, with a 93.6. Leading the way, corners Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean played their way into the Defensive Rookie of the Year conversation. In fact, Mitchell has allowed the fourth-lowest passer rating among all corners this season. While Darius Slay has been his steady self on the other side of the field. This Eagles' secondary is well-equipped to limit the effectiveness of Travis Kelce and the Chiefs' pass-catchers.

Howie Roseman has done an outstanding job of pairing his revamped secondary with a dominant pass-rush. As a result, Philadelphia's elite defense is one of the three reasons with the Eagles will win Super Bowl 59.
