Ravens Chasing Browns for Second Place in AFC North on Monday Night

The Cleveland Browns (9-3 SU, 5-7 ATS) will bring a four-game winning streak into their Week 14 Monday Night Football matchup with the Baltimore Ravens (7-5 SU, 6-5-1 ATS), who are still listed as small road favorites for this key divisional game at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark.

The defending AFC North champion Ravens routed the Browns 38-6 as 7-point home favorites back in Week 1, but they have dropped five of 11 games since then. Cleveland, meanwhile, has won nine of 11 to move closer to clinching its first playoff berth since 2002.

Opening Odds Analysis

Cleveland is down to a 1-point home underdog in early betting based on a great performance last Sunday when the team beat the Tennessee Titans 41-35 as a 4-point road underdog. The final score is not indicative of how the Browns dominated the Titans on their home field, jumping out to a 38-7 halftime lead before their opponent scored 28 of the last 31 points. Cleveland looks to be a much better team this time around, although the public perception is that Baltimore remains superior, hence the team staying the favorite. It will be interesting to see if the public wakes up, though, and drives this down to a pick’em.

Baltimore News & Notes

The Ravens have been through a lot over the last few weeks, with COVID-19 becoming a bigger foe than they probably thought was possible prior to Thanksgiving. They even got a scare before Tuesday night’s 34-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys, as wide receiver Dez Bryant was pulled from pregame warm-ups after he tested positive.

Baltimore’s primary goal right now should be to put that unfortunate situation in the rear-view mirror and focus on picking up another victory in this AFC North rivalry. The Ravens have won eight of the past 10 meetings straight up, according to the Odds Shark NFL Database, along with 10 of the last 12 on the road in this series with the Browns. Baltimore has a mental advantage against Cleveland based on past history and that could be a big edge.

Cleveland News & Notes

The Browns need to forget how they played in the season opener and focus more on their recent play, which has been outstanding for the most part.

Yes, they defeated the Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars by a combined 10 points before picking up a big win over the Titans last week. But putting together a four-game winning streak of any kind at this point is an accomplishment, and something these players are not used to considering how they have finished the previous few campaigns.

Cleveland quarterback Baker Mayfield is coming off his best effort of the season at Tennessee with 334 passing yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions, with most of the damage done in the first half. Mayfield needs to remember that, and not how he performed in Week 1.

Betting Pick: Browns +100

This is the biggest game for the Browns in a very long time, and they know it. Cleveland’s first-year head coach, Kevin Stefanski, does not care what has happened in the past between the two teams other than making sure his players have improved from the first meeting this season. There is no doubt the Browns are in a better spot than the Ravens right now and they can essentially lock up second place in the division with a home win here. Bet on Mayfield to stay hot and outplay 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.
