Broncos Jags biggest spread ever?

Barring injury or sudden aberrations by the Jaguars or Broncos in Week 5, next week’s match between these teams will be accompanied by the biggest point spread in NFL history.

One shop already added a special bet on Denver for Week 6 at -27 points. And the manager of another shop said he expected the spread could be four touchdowns as well when these teams meet up in two weeks.

“With the Broncos rolling once again yesterday and the Jags getting blown out, I have been asked numerous times already what the projected Week 6 spread will be when Denver hosts Jacksonville,” said Kevin Bradley of Sportsbook.

“Before yesterday I would have said it would be three touchdowns but … this spread is looking closer to four touchdowns. Barring any injuries or something very dramatic occurring, I would expect this to be the biggest spread we have ever posted.”

The biggest spread recorded in the OddsShark.com NFL database, which dates back to 1980, is 24 points when the New England Patriots closed as huge chalk to the visiting Eagles. The final was 31-28.

Before that, the 49ers were involved in two games where they were favored by 23.5 points. On the road at Atlanta Oct. 11, 1987 and at home to the Bengals Dec. 5, 1993.

Indeed, the Jaguars were mauled 45-17 at Seattle, falling weakly as 19.5-point underdogs. And the Broncos demolished the Eagles 52-20 as modest 11-point chalk.

Put the most prolific offensive team and the Super Bowl favorite on the field against a terrible defense and the biggest longshot to make the playoffs and you have a huge spread.
