Betting Preview: Buffalo Bills vs New York Giants

The Buffalo Bills had a big Week 1 road win against the New York Jets. Ironically, the Bills don’t have to travel for their Week 2 road game, staying at MetLife Stadium to face the Giants. Buffalo is a slight favorite in a near pick’em game, making the Bills an intriguing play.

Date/Time: September 15, 1 p.m. ET

TV Coverage: CBS

Sportsbook Odds: Buffalo -2.5 | O/U 42.5 (Line History)

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The line opened with Buffalo a modest 2.5-point favorite and the total opened at 42.5. Bettors have not jumped on the road favorite side, however, as the spread has already shifted a half-point to -2. Early action also has favored a higher-scoring game, as the total has moved a full point to 43.5.

Buffalo News & Notes

Buffalo’s Week 1 win shows that it’s not about how you start, but rather how you finish. Despite four first-half turnovers and an offense that struggled for most of three quarters, Buffalo rallied from a 16-0 deficit with 17 unanswered points in the final 18 minutes to win.

The Bills got big contributions from rookie running back Devin Singletary, who had four carries for 70 yards, as well as receiver John Brown, who logged seven receptions for 123 yards and the game-winning touchdown with three minutes remaining.

The Buffalo defense was actually outstanding, responsible for allowing just 10 points on the day, while pressuring New York the entire game, giving Jets quarterback Sam Darnold almost no time to develop any sort of rhythm. The No. 2-ranked defensive unit last season, they return 10 of 11 starters and have played a big part in the UNDER hitting in seven of their last eight road games.

New York News & Notes

This was always going to be a rebuilding year for the Giants, and Week 1 was a good blueprint for how the season will go.

Stud running back Saquon Barkley broke off a 59-yard run and the Giants scored a touchdown for a 7-0 lead on the first drive of the game … and then they proceeded to get outscored 35-10 the rest of the way.

Barkley finished with 15 touches for 139 total yards, but the offense struggled to have any momentum throughout the game, while the defense got blitzed from the outset. While the Cowboys are a superior team to the Bills, it will take a much better all-around effort by the Giants to improve their stretch of going 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight home games.

Betting Pick

This isn’t so much about liking Buffalo as disliking the Giants. I’ll take Buffalo to cover.
