Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Fresh off its upset of Kansas City, Buffalo is up to a 5.5-point favorite in its second consecutive road game against a playoff team from last season. The Bills have taken over as favorites to win the Super Bowl at some books, and with good reason. However, it is still too early in the season to crown them, and the Titans crushed them 42-16 as 3-point home underdogs a year ago around this same time. The total is also up slightly to 53.5 after these teams combined to score 75 points in a pair of wins last week.

Buffalo News & Notes

Buffalo successfully avenged last year’s AFC championship game loss to Kansas City on national television, and the public saw how great this team – and quarterback Josh Allen – really are.

Allen hurt the Chiefs with his arm and his legs in the rout while the defense forced Patrick Mahomes into three turnovers, including two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

But the biggest takeaway from that huge victory is how the players like Allen and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders reacted afterward, realizing it was only Week 5 and there is a long road to go yet before the postseason. That said, home-field advantage in the AFC is the next goal in addition to the Super Bowl.

Tennessee News & Notes

Tennessee was one of the few teams that had an answer for Allen and company last year, picking him off twice and holding him to just 18 yards rushing on four carries.

The Titans were able to do some damage on the ground offensively as well despite All-Pro running back Derrick Henry being limited to 57 yards on 19 carries. Henry did score two touchdowns while quarterback Ryan Tannehill more than doubled Allen’s rushing output with 42 yards on four carries, including a 10-yard touchdown run. Tannehill also threw for three touchdowns in the blowout win, which was part of the team’s 5-0 start last season.

Tennessee tuned up for this game with a 37-19 rout of the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, covering the spread easily as 4.5-point road underdogs behind Henry’s three TDs.

How Buffalo Will Cover

Defensively, the Bills need to keep playing at the same high level, and then covering the spread should be easy. They have not allowed more than 21 points since their surprising season-Sportsbook loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and that setback remains the only thing keeping them from being the AFC’s lone unbeaten team right now. They have also scored 35 or more in winning four straight, and hitting that number here once again would help too.

How Tennessee Will Cover

Tennessee has scored 25 points or more in its three wins and 24 or less in its two losses. The Titans can likely cover by reaching 25 in this spot vs one of the NFL’s top defenses. This might seem to be much easier said than done, but they are certainly capable of accomplishing that feat based on how they played in last year’s home meeting.
